Evolution Update

Here are 7 of the 10 free Design Templates that will be included with our soon to be released product Evolution. All of the designs were created using only Evolution and hopefully this will give you an idea of what is possible with this new product.

We have also created a very in-Depth animated gallery page that makes finding the right element fast and easy.

Of course these are just a few of the great features of Evolution that will be launching soon. And yes I could post a video of these designs but I want to wait for the promo.

Although this is probably going to be very neat stuff I wonder how long the flourishes and the extension swirls will last as being popular. Same goes for the lightbeams running towards the sides of an element starting from the center. This is going on quite some time now. I really don't know how or who ever is making these items 'hot' or not but same goes for fashion I believe.

Don't get me wrong, what VC is doing is highpro stuff in my opinion, but i'd like to be thinking ahead :)
October 22nd, 2007 @ 4:01 am

MAN you are the best, you can ask ANY price, i will buy always your stuff!

October 22nd, 2007 @ 5:31 am
wow this product looks sick andrew. Hey guys when you get a chance check out my latest flick called "Mr. Berringer." Video Copilot played a HUUUUUUGE part in the creation of this movie and I love it!!! Go to youtube and search for either "Bonesone4" or "Mr Berringer"

I'd submit a link but the movie is broken up into 4 or 5 parts because it was lengthy. Im compressing a full version, (one file), as I type and will post that on my blog sometime during the next week or so. That's the way it SHOULD be watched but for now ya gotta deal with the part 1, 2, etc..... THANKS ANDREW AND BY THE WAY, I LEFT SPECIAL THANKS FOR U IN THE CREDS!!

October 22nd, 2007 @ 5:39 am
Fashion like history tends to run in cycles, so even if the florals and swirls run out of fashion they WILL be back eventually.

Okey, maybe someone have posted this question before, but are Evolution going to be downloadable ?
October 22nd, 2007 @ 6:37 am
This product will be available on DVD or Digital Download.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 6:48 am
Andrew, you should make a box set with all your products and package it to where all the spines of the dvd cases form a picture in the box. What picture would you use? Sam's face with a tear in his eye?
Marc Biorklund
October 22nd, 2007 @ 6:53 am
Looks awsome ! I am looking forward to see the video promo !!!

@Tobias: Your question is legitime but I personally think the life time of a such product is almost limited by your own creativity. Even if flourishes may be less popular with the time, the quality of your animation will make the difference. If the final result is great, the fact some element are more or less popular won't change anything.

Where is the pre-order button ? ;)
October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:18 am
I bet my ... that those elements will be growable by keyframes!
October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:33 am
Awesome as usual i can`t wait to see the promo! :) You rock man you`re the best in this business.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:38 am
@marc: Yes of course that is true. But hey MR Kramer is making a business and he offers the product, so as concerned for any consumer I have to make decisions whether I spent money at training DVD's or DVD's jammed with pre animated contents. If I can only use a fraction of that content over time, perhaps my limited resources could be spent more wisely on products that will be lasting longer.

This is the financial Tobias speaking, creative tobias is jumping and drooling at his seat ;) No offence what so ever.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:39 am
Awesome! I am looking forward to not having to create vector illustrations from scratch anymore. So, is this essentially the Riot Gear 2 you were talking about awhile ago, or is that going to be a whole separate deal?
October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:54 am

posted this earlier but it didn't show up...maybe too long?

Andrew, because I've seen products similar to this before such as the elements at youworkforthem.com, the designs and gomedia.com, and Digital Juice's jump back "Fresh Crawl" I am hoping that Evolution will feature a lot more customization options.

Does Evolution include the original AE comps like Video Streams HD, possibly utilizing animated Shape Layers for ultimate customization?...or is it simply pre-animated quicktime files like the ink/paint in Riot Gear?

October 22nd, 2007 @ 10:59 am
Can I just give you money now? Dude, I can't wait for this particular product. Simply too much good sh*t!

October 22nd, 2007 @ 12:31 pm
Well without getting into all of the technical aspects of this product I will tell you that there is no universal video format that is vector based. In other words there isn't a good way to distribute vector animation without rasterizing them first.

The other primary consideration is ease of use and usability. So to keep the product universally friendly and easily accessible with most video applications specifically After Effects, the files are pre-keyed quicktime videos

With that said we have created a very powerful way to edit and customize these designs with amazing results. In fact this is one of my favorite parts about this product. It is difficult to describe but I will have a video demonstration up soon.

We will not be including the project files used to create the designs mainly because they are not customer friendly. Many designs have nearly 100 layers and we also use some proprietary animation scripting that helps with the flow of the elements as they grow. In the end it comes down to fact that these project files are pretty difficult to manage especially if you are not the artist that created them. But with our special tool you will be able to make amazingly custom designs with our generous collection of elements. One secret is that you can also use outside vector art with this tool as well. It won't help to animate them but you will be able to customize them to make 1 design change into 20 designs.

I'm sure if you search the web you may find a few resources for creating these yourself in fact we encourage you to do so because you will know what it takes and why this product is going to be so valuable.

There is so much in this product that it barely fits on a single DVD.

I don't feel good about pre-sales because what if I get hit by a bus... or worse a bus driven by monkeys?

Awesome !!
October 22nd, 2007 @ 2:44 pm
I dont know what to think about that...

You teaching us lot of important and fun stuff! Riot Great for example is simply GREAT. But I#m afraid that is going to be a bunch of "presets" that everybody is going to put in there vids and than it says "look andrew kramer stuff"

I know there are plenty good ways to use this stuff but i think it would be helpfuller to teach the people how to create such stuff :) But you have to earn a bit money too, so its ok *hrhr*

October 22nd, 2007 @ 3:50 pm
KimOhNo, you thoughts were at the forefront of developing this product. We asked ourselves, 'how can we make a product that isn't going to wear out?'

The bottom line is people who are still learning are going to be able to create amazing things right away. The people that have limited time and budget are going to impress there clients and bosses. The people that want to go to the next level are going to be able to take advantage of this products special tool that I will be demonstrating very soon.

With this tool, you can create imaginative unrecognizable art that will blow your mind. You will see that this product has no limits. I promise.

October 22nd, 2007 @ 4:47 pm
There is only one question

I always use your other products with great success, so please, release it!

Best and thank you for all

October 22nd, 2007 @ 6:02 pm

To piggy back on KimOhNo's point...I'm tired of seeing people take your tutorials and passing off the work as there own. I'd hate to see someone buy the elements and then take them and post them on istock's video site. I've already seen your earth tutorial being peddled as someone else's work.

Also, I can't tell you how many demo reels I've seen lately, where poeple take your tutorial, replace some text, and say they did it. It's sad.

I love your tutorials because they spur my creative juices and get me thinking and push me to be all that much more creative!

Thank you again Andrew for everything you do...you are a Godsend!!

All the best,

October 22nd, 2007 @ 6:08 pm
@ bE, I am sure Andrew knows of this already and this is not the place to post
such comments (Not that I'm doing the exact same thing now) and this should be deleted along with bE's post above.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 6:11 pm
Sorry adding to last post @ bE,

October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:05 pm

October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:19 pm
Sweeeeet.....I want demo video...lol take your time AK, all looks great!
October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:34 pm
I don't mind the discussion.

Well, it is true that some viewers use the free tutorials in there own demo reel and that is certainly not encouraged but if it helps them get a job with a local company where they can build there own reel, then great.
Just think of it this way, when those people get an ear full from other online artists, they will start coming up with their own original stuff, thereby evolving.

As for stock sites, all of our products are NOT licensed for distributing as stock art so we make sure that isn't happening. Our free tutorials... well I can care less, I'm not the poor sap paying 10 bucks for it :)

Our products, specifically Riot Gear and soon Evolution are not art. They are design elements. They come black & white. It is up to you to create art. Sure there are resources like tutorials and templates to help get you started but the idea is to be inspiring or maybe help you out of a deadline.

I think pleasing your clients with quality work is a very important part of what we do as artist. While many of us artists online know about Video Copilot, the truth is, most clients even the big ones, probably never heard of me or my little site. So JoeFX may know who inspired that shot, your big MOVIE CHECK won't care.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 7:51 pm
Well said AK, And I completely agree, Although a Demo Reel should never include your art/tuts or products, I believe a "Real" Demo Reel should be from a persons own artistic talent, and never come close to anything viewed or published before.

October 22nd, 2007 @ 8:19 pm
I know there are a few tutorials out there about how to make things grow, like Jayse's (sp?) at creative cow. His (and other's that I have seen) mainly use the "write on" effect, or in some cases, the "vector paint" effect...

Andrew, are you going to post any tutorials along with Evolution to show any techniques (however complicated they may be) that you use? I was just wondering, because when I see these tutorials, they are all about "revealing" the image, rather than actually simulating growth... specifically with arrows. I saw that you are including arrow elements, and those are what confuse me the most. This is because if you simply revealed a line with an arrow head on it, it wouldn't actually look like the arrow is going somewhere. You have to start the "growth" with the arrow head on the line, and the arrow head looks like it is directing the line in different directions. That is something I would like to see a tutorial on.

Sorry... I ramble =(

Jayse's Tutorial -----> http://library.creativecow.net/articles/hansen_jaysen/growing.php
October 22nd, 2007 @ 8:22 pm
I just think that the people that have to make exact copies to have a reel probably wont make it too far anyways, so there's no point complaining about them.

Anyways, can't wait for Evolution, look like some good stuff.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 8:29 pm
....Besides, they can put every single one of Andrew's tutorials in their reel, but when time comes and they have a job and cant pull anything else out of their own hat, they're gonna get bit, so I wouldn't worry about those people too much.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 8:29 pm
There will be several design tutorials but none that focus specifically on how these elements were created.

I'll be honest, there isn't a big secret, it just takes a lot of animating, a lot of keyframes and a lot of mountain dew.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 9:00 pm
No wonder my stuff never looks as good as yours. All this time I've been drinking coke. And you said there isn't a secret.
October 22nd, 2007 @ 9:49 pm

After reading your response about the reason for not including the original AE comps I am satisfied with what you've revealed about "Evolution" and am looking forward to its release!

I have designed a few vector elements and to make them look really good, organic, and complicated, takes a LONG time and a LOT of pre-comps...I was hoping there would be a way to supply buyers with the original project files, but it sounds like they're just to complicated, which means the end product must be pretty sweet!

October 22nd, 2007 @ 10:18 pm
@ Kimohno:
I see what you are saying, but if you have a client coming to you and asking for something in this style, it makes much more sense to use the design elements provided for you by Andrew, rather than to try and create it from scratch. It takes quite a while to make even one of these elements, and when you are on a deadline time=money. It allows you even more creative freedom because you have more time to work on your incorporation of the elements. I don't encourage taking the free tuts and using them directly, and I hate when you see a web page where people only have Andrews tutorials with no customization of their own (and don't credit him), but I have had times where a client comes to me and needs a good example of what I can do, and I have to throw together a demo piece in a day, or sometimes a couple of hours.
Here is a vid I did in this situation awhile ago, and I am not proud of it, but I used one of the free tuts directly from riot gear, as well as the earth zoom. It made all of the difference when I needed a couple of clips that I didn't have time to make from scratch, and it got me the job! Don't ONLY use his examples, but if you are in a time crunch, they can hep out a whole lot!

P.s. What do you guys think about the transitions, and writing with fire? Oh yeah, and I know the shatter at the end is kinda weak, but like I said, I was down to the last minute on this deadline.

In reply to technology changing so quickly... (my iPhone = -$200)

I am on my fall break right now and I am home in Kansas visiting my parents and we were all watching the boob tube when all of the sudden i see riot gear and the write on effect.. At first i thought nothing about it... But then near the end of this Kansas City commercial... I was the exact replica of the riot gear tutorial with the door/safe and the green orange radial color overlay... And it really mad me made...

I dont know if i was more mad that a broadcasting company (fox news in KCMO) would rip off something like that or if i was mad because someone close to home knows about andrew kramer...

I think it might be both...

Hey Andrew! Just thought I'd share this with you!

My first comercial type spot, for a Juice our company is getting ready to launch.
Your tutorials certainly helped me out! We're still in the draft phaze of the video, so we have some tweeks to make. I did 90% of it in AfterEffects, and I rendered out the bottle in 3DStudio Max. I'd love some feedback from you and everyone else in the VC community!

Love your new product your coming out with. Thats going to rock!

Jacob --
I thought your commercial looked great!! Excellent work! Very professional!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:15 pm
@ Dustin James: You should be happy for Andrew every time you see his stuff on t.v. If I were him I would be honored every time someone used my tuts, creatively or not.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 2:46 pm
Dude - this is looking even cooler than you originally described to me. Or maybe I just don't have the imagination for seeing this stuff, in the minds eye. Really nice work. I am always amazed at the design aspects of your advertisements. Good stuff!

In reference to people using tutorial projects on their reels: I see my work being used all the time, but not nearly as much as Andrew's (why don't you like me?!). Personally I don't mind. It's part of sharing your work and project files with the world. When you do a tutorial, you just hope people will take it to the next level and be a little more creative. At least that's my philosophy.

Anyway, I guess I'll know I've reached the big time when I see the result of one of my tutorials show on YouTube up as much as Andrew's demon face warping did.

Dude, that site got really creepy for a while. Yeech.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 3:13 pm
Don't Worry Aharon, we love you too! I think it's just that video co-pilot is a very intuitive site, and Andrew caters to the more popular and catchy trends. I like your site though, and you have an extremely impressive client list. Cheers!
October 23rd, 2007 @ 5:03 pm
Yes we love you Aharon,
In fact we want more from you (Hint, hint, Free Tutorial's) and more of us will come, And no this is not about a "Baseball" Field :)

We love U 2 Aharon Rabinowitz

By the way I wish I had my Camera here at home, There is ONE AWESOME sunset due to the fires here, But my Cam is in ths shop for another week :(

Maybe some of you can snap/record some of these "INCREDIBLE" fire sunsets for us? I surely hope you will, It is Amazing tonight.
October 23rd, 2007 @ 6:43 pm
Very cool!

However I will admit I am a bit unclear as to what this product is. Is this premade templates like your video streams product? or is it more along the lines of riot gear, where you get design elements to create it yourself?

I am sure once the product is released, all of these questions will be cleared up.

I feel so... well cheated on...

He is mine and you can't have him Jay G.
By the way, where are you from?

And yes I am excited that I saw his stuff on tv.. but even the same colors and the same everything? on tv? that is just wrong... i think.. If i saw his riotgear textures.. I wouldn't be so upset..

The one-thing I enjoy most of the products and tutorials from Video Copilot
is the Creativity they bring-out.
If your goal was to inspire creativity, I believe you guys have surpassed them!
For this reason alone I'm anticipating the release of "Evolution"

Hi all!

This is my first visit and I must say I'm truly impressed. I liked the video in the AE tutorial section so much, I played it over and over again. I am truly looking forward to Evolution. It is reminiscent of the video I purchased from Digital Juice, but since this is an application that allows you to create, I think I''m going to be in heaven! I liked the look at the end of "Hairspray" (2007) when all the objects were moving around titles and pictures, I believe. I dream that I can do that one day. I notice there has been no definite mention of a timeline, so I hope we will soon knmow when Evolution will evolve :)

Animating Vectors in AE CS3 is easy, there are not many tut's on this subject yet since CS3 in very NEW!

But... Let me just say WAIT for these types of tutorials to EXPLODE as vector animation is exploding in all types of Media, You will soon see more tutorials on this.

I will post a link to my very own "Animated Vector" soon.

October 27th, 2007 @ 4:39 pm

October 31st, 2007 @ 4:39 am
Will Evolution be involved into a big Bundle? Like Lucky Seven + One? I'd love to buy all the DVD's at once but my money says: I kick you in the nuts! ;)
November 1st, 2007 @ 1:00 pm
Is there a release date for this? Looks great!
November 2nd, 2007 @ 10:14 am
Puchase Page is back online....but no Evolution!
November 2nd, 2007 @ 1:58 pm
Making This Product was not easy, Making The Promo for this Product Takes Time...

If you think you can make your own then here is a starting point

But let me just say these are time consuming VFX, and by purchasing "Evolution"
You Will be able to use these in your work flow now, without the need to spend endless hours trying to make your own.

Now be patient for Evolution for Christ sake :)
November 2nd, 2007 @ 10:17 pm
I think people were pumped thinking / hoping this would be out shortly after it's announcement. Especially when we got a glimpse of the Design templates.

Maybe an announcement closer to the date of the product being completed or ready for release would have been better.

Anyway, I know it will be worth the wait. And as always, thanks again for another great product.
November 5th, 2007 @ 6:56 am
hey.. very nice!

but.. what's this product??? it's a software graphic, video..??
November 5th, 2007 @ 10:04 am
Will Evolution be out in the next week?
November 5th, 2007 @ 11:17 am
November 5th, 2007 @ 11:26 am
... Where is Evolution ...?! :]
November 5th, 2007 @ 12:11 pm
Psssst hey you, Joe Bloger over here, I heard through the grapevine Evolution is being released today, But don't let Andrew know I told you cause he might just make us wait till tomorrow, now go hide down that alley and wait for my signal, then when you see my signal rip out your wallet grab a Major Credit Card, and go here

Then run home and play with it :)
November 5th, 2007 @ 1:33 pm
I dont want to wait anymore. I want it now...lol. Its like when your a kid at Christmas and you just cant wait so any longer so when your parents are not home you unwrap your sega genesis and play it and right before they get home you re-wrap it like it was never touched. Waiting sucks.
