Help! Whenever I try to move the Light on the z-axis it's not lined up right and goes into the street instead of going back behind the cars where it should go. How do I fix that?!

We are using Adobe After Effects CS6 and we have been following the procedures in the video of your but got stuck at time 16:30. We made a new light layer but it is stayed Gray. How can we fix this problem? Thank you! :)

Andrew, thank you for every awesome tutorial that you've created for us! Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the world and making it possible for us to continue our passion in visual effects.
Now, I do have one question regarding this 3D Light Casting tutorial. I'm working with Adobe After Effects CS6, and when you tell us to Toggle the Switches for the (Ground Plane) it doesn't give me the option to use the (Classic Color Dodge), or (Luma Matte). The only time it gives me the option to make those changes is when I remove the (3D Layer - Allows this layer to be manipulated in 3 dimensions). Only then I'm able to us the (Classic Color Dodge) and (Luma Matte). Please help, your knowledge is very valuable to me.

My TV/Video class is doing VCP tuts for an assignment, and the 3D Layer thing for this won't show up. More specifically, the color arrows won't show.

Using an iMac, if that makes any difference.

If you want your energy ball more visible, you can get a free plugin called unmult and just change the tail y orientation to 10 at the beginning of the video!

Lux comes as a plug-in that you have to buy. The plugin is called "Trapcode". If you already have this plugin, just go to the effect tab on the AE interface and click "Trapcode", then click "Lux"

Hi everyone!
I was trying to follow this tutorial, but I have AE CS5.5, here the tracker works very different, in fact, it does the tracking automatically, and no longer affects position or anchor point, now it adds kind of a new effect layer, so, I couldn't make the reverse tracking... =/
any ideas?

Really fantastic tutorial, Im currently trying the 30 day trial of CS 4, and I actually worked the whole night yesterday on completing this tutorial.And I already feel like ive learned alot about AE. Unfortunatly... When Im nearly 95% done with the movie, and you want me to take the Street Footage Comb and drop onto a new comb. My AE just freezes up, and if I click anywhere with my mouse it says (Client is not responding) and the only way out is Ctrl+Alt+Delete :/ Also if I just try to render without doing the last step to reverse the motion, it just freezes up. I guess my Computer is just too weak to run with the full power of AE :/

Im running Windows XP SP 3 on Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53GHz, 2.53 GHz, 2,00 GB RAM with a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1024 MB DDR2. With newest drivers ofc. I really wanna work with AE, so I will prolly find myself next to a computer store soon, if I dont figure out why the program keeps freezing for me when working with the "serious" animations, as in theese tutorials

I think 2G Ram is the problem on your computer.
Cos, 1.5G memory will use for the background.
(AE set it at default and can't be change more low).

Light (your light) goes down University Place, where it starts is corner with 13 Street and further up one block is Union Square, further down is NYU. Those streets never sleep, safe place thought

I have always wanted to know how 3D, special effects and all that were done. I have learned so much just by watching your tutorials in 2 weeks. Now I am using After Effects for different projects plus, I will be going back to college to learn this stuff even more. There is one thing though. Do you know of any tutorials that teach how to write your name/signature using trapcode particular?

I don't remember where (i googled it) but I learned how to do light streaks very similar to long exposure light painting with a camera. You can use that to write your signature. There's also a tutorial on here on how to stroke something using lights so maybe that could help.

Hey, I was just testing this, and I may sound likea bit of a noob since I'm just testing out the basics, but I cant seem to get the intensity of the elipse solid when combining 2 with "add" blend mode. Its just the same colour, and not intensified.
