Hi, i've followed this tutorial to the letter and other and anytime i do any motion tracking, when lay in text etc, i have issues of it changing scale and skewing and wondering off my scene with a mind of it's own. I've tried in mocha and also with boujou and seem to keep getting the same results. I'm on the verge of throwing my laptop out the window, any suggestions guys? Plz,,,,, this is what i keep getting,

I've had the same problems. I've actually stopped trying that same tutorial due to my frustration with the tracking. When in Boujou the tracking seems good. One thing I haven't tried yet is scaling down and normalizing the track described in 132. Alien Surface.

I don't think mocha comes as a stans alone program, when in AE, click on ur animation drop down menu and u should see the option to track in mocha. You can only open it from AE.

Hey, just wondering how i can have mocha... because i have AE CS6 but when i type in "mocha" to find it in my computer, it does, but when i click on it, it says that it needs to be open from adobe after effects... i don't really understand what they mean by that... please help... i'm new with all of this but i really need to do this effect for an important project. Is there an other way i can do this if mocha doesn't work?

Open your project in AE, then select Animation from the top menu and then select Track in mocha AE. Then the Mocha program will begin.

A word of warning about Mocha. My version came with CS 5.5 (which I JUST got), but it's version 2.3 and the current version is 2.6. I found out that in order to get the current version (even though it's only a partial upgrade), I'll have to buy it. Also, the version I have will NOT import mpeg files. Since my boss won't pay for the upgrade and Mocha won't import the format I work in, basically, it's useless to me. Good luck!

Simply export the mpeg to sequential files and your version of mocha AE will read them. mocha's planar tracking saves hours of time, so please don't let the lack of file support for your format turn you off an amazing product.

If i apply your preset to the null-layer, I get an error.
and if I fix it then the null starts well but then starts moving all over the screen. Please help me, I like this tutorial very much.

any body having problem that when u copy to clipboard after effects cannot paste?

solution: just close after effects and reopen the project file it'l work just f9.Hope it helps

we have plenty of presets except this in spanish. I attempted in various ways but can´t find the error and there are many variables...some help would be nice.
Or go through the forum and look for:"Corner pin to null in Spanish"

to open any english preset on AE if you have a Spanish version:
Create a direct access icon to AE.
Name it AE Spanish.

Copy and edit it:
Destiny:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files\AfterFX.exe" -L en_US

Rename AE english

now you have 2 AE, one in enghlish an another in spanish to use

This tutorial sucks! I have been at it for 3 hours and still can't get it to work.
Im using CS5 and it seems the files are for an older version.

I did everything step by step but my sign keeps moving with that zombie mind of its own. The first part works fine but as soon as you try the corner pin to null stuff it all goes to #$$%#

It's all good though because your other stuff rocks!!!

I had the same problem, it's something wrong with the export tracking data, just use another format when you copy to the clipboard (i used the one that said "corner pin only"), but that messed with the "danger ahead" tracking data, so you have to use diferent comps each with diferent tracking data formats.....if i wrote something wrong is because i'm from chile

I had this problem, but there's a simple solution. In the project files download there are two effects the "Corner-Pin_to-Null" and the "Corner-Pin_to-Null_multi" Andrew uses the Corner-Pin_to-Null effects in the tutorial but that, like for you, gave me an error and was unusable. Instead, use the Corner-Pin_to-Null_multi and it should work. It did for me at least. Good luck.

Andrew, I'm trying to get a particle emitter to follow a brush. For example, I have a text layer, I make a square mask around it and apply a stroke effect to it, thus the stroke animates, boxing in the text. What I'm wanting to do is have a particle emitter follow the stroke as it's being drawn around the word, almost like it's a flame torch welding around the text. I've watched dozens of these tutorials and am quite slow at learning all of this. My mind is more artistic, and trying to mix in logic and expressions with all of this is rather a challenge for me.

This is BS. I got cs5 and Mocha 2.2.0 and this crap isn't working at all. The paste part does f.a. and after that this tute is completely useless. i've watched it over and over...no help, no explanation of what does what and why so i can apply it to my own scenario. How is this education.

Sometimes mocha and monet have a problem with the paste function (at least on Macs) going to AE. The solution is to copy the track data, paste it into a Text Edit document, then copy that same text (from the Text Edit doc) and paste it into AE. But first relax. The guy provides free, pretty awesome tutorials. Show a little gratitude.

To all the people on CS5 who are having problems with the present once pasting it on the Null Layer:

On Mocha V2 you need to select the Export Corner Pin Data (CS3 or older versions). Then you paste the Corner-Pin_to-Null into the Null layer as per the tutorial and link it to the Tracking Comp. You then parent the Null layer to the Tracking Comp layer as well as parent the Red Pole layer to the Null layer. That did it for me.

I used mocha to track a simple footage and when pasting the track to AE I'm not getting the tracking correct, When I typed the text as in your sample but it doesn't stay put. Both videos are 24fps and 640 by 480. The tracking looks OK in Mocha but not in AE.

When the error pops up you just continue, select the Tracking Comp layer in the null's effects window (the list where you choose what layer to take the data from) and reactivate the expression back
