I have a car moving. Between key frames, the car is supposed to stop, however it inches forward every 10/th of a second. How can I stop it 100% during this time?

Hi there! I know I'm not a professional yet, and you have years of experience over me so this is just my personal input. I think it would look a little better if you used the time remapping to slow him down a little before he freezes. It's a bit abrupt and slowing him down might make it seem a little more like time slows down and then freezes.

how do i make my render time longer like im doin a project amd its pretty long but every time i try to render it, it renders to one point then stops and plays it when it didn't finsish please help me on this if not ill fail social studies :O

Am I doing something wrong? When time is frozen, there is one moment in time where the background footage moves for one frame. I did everything that you said in this tutorial. Could you tell me why this is happening, or if there is a solution?

I freakin hate this!!! the guy walks on waay to late then the sam with the boxes had already disappeared! So the second walks out like a retard and shakes his head at nothing! Mabye its dog crap!?! I dont know because nothing is there!!!!! You guys sucks!

When the double of Sam walks in and has a look at his double (the one who is falling), you will notice that the one who is falling's arm get smallervwhen the 'Sam' enters and looks at him, then when Sam leavs, and the double falls onto the ground, the double's arm gets bigger again.

after watching many of your tutorials, i thought maybe you could clean up the mask with a lil bit of feathering... also do some easy ease "F9" to make the time freeze not so dramatic, but its really whatever kind of shot you are going for...

Andrew, why was it necessary to put a garbage mask around the 2nd Sam layer? I can't figure out why you would need that. Was there some other unwanted movement in the shot on the left side of the screen that you needed to mask out? Just curious. Great tutorial and love your work, especially on Fringe.

Is there a way to create a snapshot of rotation disk that we saw in the Matrix movie, so freeze the snapshot while the camera continues to spin in the shot. I know when they made this they use many, many photographic cameras. Can we do it in after effects with out use equipment like that?

I enjoy your tutorials. They are very good and helpful. I was wondering if you know how to create effects like the show "Merlin". In the show the character Merlin's eyes glow whenever he uses majic. It's not just a typical glow but more like a a vibrant cornia glow. Is there a way to do that with Adobe After Effects?

Hey guys, take a minute before you ask questions that are already answered in the tutorial or at the site. One guy asks how to make the overlapping layers semitransparent...were you not watching the tutorial? Second another guys asks where he can find "The Basics" Like on the front page of this website has a big banner "After Effects Basic Training" I think Andrew would like to think you guys are intelligent...so take a moment and check things out. I've found that nearly all the answers are right here if you look.

But u have a problem. For some reason it's imossible for me to show both clips at the same time. I made a vid where i throw a can into the air, then stops and after some time it falls down. And the secodn clip shows me (clone) coming from the right side and looking at the 'floating' can. What do i have to do, that i can see both 'me' at the same time.. opacity 100%.
Please help me with that, and don't stpo posting cool effects!

Excellent Tutorial im definatly gonna try this. Just a quick question though how would you go about doind this so instead of the fall guy stopping dead in space, having him slowley so it looks like time has been slowed down and not stopped ?

Thanks for the tutorial, it was really helpful since I'm a beginner, The only thing i found a little difficult to follow was when you duplicated the clips and renamed them, since you didn't say witch key you used, but as I said, I'm a beginner and not really familiar with After Effects. Another problem I had was my video recorder not being very good, every time i fell over the picture went blurry, In the end i just decided to throw a ball in the air and freeze it when the ball reached its peak. Again thank you for this tutorial, my animation turned out better than I thought!

I just watched and enjoyed your tutorial on Freeze Frame. At the end I was wondering, it would be cool if the second guy would reach out and grab one of the boxes and walk off with it. Is that something you could show? You see that effect on TV commercials sometimes. Just a thought. Great tutorial!

when i move the two keyframes, (which freezes time) about 3 secs into the clip, the freeze object moves a frame... its weird and i dont get it...

When I did the freeze it jumped one frame during the time it should have been frozen.
I solved it by changing the value of the digits that are to the right of "Time Remap" in the Timeline (e.g. 0:02:18:21). The two points that you want the video to freeze between should have exactly the same value. Noone else has written this solution here, so I hope it helps someone in some way. I don't know why this happens though.

Hey. I loved the video tutorial. What I would love to see. Dude walks, trips and hits the pavement. The boxes are frozen in mid air. Other dude comes into frame walks out to the curb gets the mail,(walks inback of the mid-air boxes) After getting the mail walks infront of the mid-air boxes. Once he is out of frame the boxes fall. Looks like a great effect to accomplish.

Great tutorial, as usual. I have tried this 3 times and run into the same problem every time. Approximately 9:05 into your tutorial you finish trimming the foreground and raising the opacity back to 100%. At that point on your tutorial you can see both sams still but when I do it you can only see one at a time...what am I missing????? Please help...otherwise awesome!!

so i tried to use the knowledge from your Speed Variation- tut to realise this shot.
unfortunately the ease-"parts" are jut a couple of frames so the movement is kind of jerky.
sadly frame-blending(pixelmotion) does not help.
do you have an idea how to realise such effect?

I am doing these tutorials out of order. So forgive me taking this so far back. But my my foreground mask seems to shrink, when the 2nd sam runs behind it. I know it is due to the missing person in the 2nd sam footage. I have tried some different setting on the Foreground mask, but I can't seem to resolve it. Any suggestions?

Andrew, I see you get a lot of great comments about your tutorials.Well here is another. I owned the Video bundle pro 7 for about a year and could complete nothing with AE that look right at all. So I stuck to the video/photo side of the programing. Because of your Tutorials, your off in a different direction comments at times I now make it my daily routine and watch them and look for new ones. Further I thirst like walking through a dessert for AE usage, info and training and have purchased your products, thanks for all you do and the way you "Talk to your self" in these Tutorials. Serius! this is great! I've really learned something, I had a really great time watching your turtorial, right after i saw this I whent out and did some filming, and got to my computer and did this effect, I also used this on a school-project and got an "A" so Thanks, love your work.

Nice tutorial. After seeing this in a few places, it was the 1st thing I tried in AE. I was a bit confused at first on why I didn't see the clip under the 50% transparency camera, but that was because I was in the wrong tab. This is really easy to follow, nice job. The only other problem is that you need a camera with a pretty high shudder rate or you'll get motion blur which looks pretty bad.

Too bad you have AE 6.5. That sucks, buddy! I just got around to making a test of this effect, which I think looks ok. Didn't fancy falling on my face (liable to knock my teeth out) so took it a slightly different way. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4WlDpu3gPro

i'm thinking about gettin adobe after effects 7.0...do you have to get the professional version in order to do the effects for all these tutorials? and does anybody know where to get it for less than 1000 dollars like i've seen around?
