PLEASE HELP. The 3D Orbit preset is not working in AE 2020. It says:

Can the 3D orbit preset animate on more than one circle. It seems I'm not able to move the position as it rotates in a different radius.

For those struggling with this tutorial due to CC 2017's effects and expression menu changing, use the new particle world in effects, follow the position instructions here in this video but follow the expression menu language by this guy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXhy0VlPY24

Great tutorial but 2017 particle world is so different that I can't find the stuff to change the opacity map

Thank you. One of greatest tuotorial ever made for adobe software. Result is so great and it was easy to follow up with some experiecne from after effects and photoshop.

Hi, this tutorial is awesome thanks. however i followed you step by step, exact settings and numbers however when i do the rotation on the spec and spec two the circle changes into and eliptical shape then back to circle while rotating :/ what do you think is the problem? I am using CS6

I can't make a perfect circle, after I double click the cirlce, its perfect, but when i try to edit the pixels it changes into a little bit oval, i thought that was okay but then when i try to rotate by doing the (time*80) it ruins everything.

Hi Andrew what a great tutorial!! Really awesome effects, this has been great help for me. But I do have one question.
Here is my situation: I did every step you explained in this tutorial (and made my own adjustments) so I placed the Null in the middle of the comp. and pickwipped everything to that Null. Now I wanted to place my text not underneath the ring but on the right side. So I moved all the layers a little to the left to make some room for my text. Worked just fine!
But this is the problem: The particles who are flying away after being emitted are flying out of the screen (of the layer). but because I moved the layers over to the left there is a Hard edge were they just disappear. So I thought I lets just scale the size of the layer up. but now the size of the circle that the particles make is bigger to. so its not lined up with the ring anymore..
So my question is. How can I scale up the size of a layer without scaling up the content of the layer??? If someone had an answer to that I'd be helped so much!

Mac CS5.5 Rotating Specular layer issues. After having put in the expression time*80 when scrubbing the mask elongates at the top and bottom during rotation. I can't figure out what the... Seems like a simple rotation gone crazy. I even duplicated a simple circle and it still elongates at the top and bottom. Help...

For those who don't want to download Patriculars demo/dont like the giant X that appears when you use it, I was able to create the same thin streak by creating a thin line with Particle World, then using the Liquify tool!

every time i go to the opacity map for the particles it closes the entire Adobe after effter effects program. I am running Cs6 could this be a problem?

I just wanna ask something about the null object can I use motion tracking to make it follow the rotation of the ring instead of using that preset, just wondering I thought it might be right too and i will be easier to make it follow the shape we want if we didn't want to use a ring shape

A little but might be a silly question.

I want that effect in the end of the my movie but when i scaling those layers to the end where it will start, the incoming form isnt that perfect. It's just like starting from a random zoom. But when i drag the the particle world layer to the beginning of the comp its ok, its zooming out smmothly.
Does anyone know how to do that in any point of the video?

I must say, this is by far one of the best tutorials and step through's of all time!. One little problem though. I seem to have a large green 'X' across my screen after I started on the Particle World step. I am running Mac (10.7) and AE Cs5.

Hi, great tutorial, but one confusing problem - when hooking up the CC Particle World system to the null object, I'm following the tutorial EXACTLY - but once I'd added the expressions and clicked away, the particles have simply vanished. Scrubbing the timeline, no particles being generated. Also, the x y z co-ords don't change as the null object moves - they're showing as locked in place. So despite apparently being linked, the Particle solid is doing nowt.
Any ideas folks? What am I missing?

Brilliant tutorial.
I have got one issue. After following it, I have 2 diagonal lines from each corner crossing in the middle that seems to have a slight glow...
I'd like to get rid of them.

Thanks for sharing all these great tutorials.I tried this ring tutorial but I the end I have one problem. When we apply glow on lines and circle it gives us one cross lines. aorund our composition. I looked it in ur project file also and you also have that pink cross line aorund the compostion. Please advice me how to hide that cross line in render.

Well done.I like all of your tuts.By the way,one of the major tv companies in Lithuania uses your idea.Actualy they just copied it.If you search on youtube "tv3 oplia" or "tv3 dzin" you`ll see what I`m talking about . I tried to use this project file aswell,I didnt put too much effort ,just copied my 3d composition in to your project disabling some layers.You can check the result on:

I really dig your tutorials but they are real mind benders. I used your shatter tutorial once to create an exploding puzzle using the AV bros Puzzle Plugin for Photoshop and then importing the pieces into AE... it turned out pretty cool. You can see the effect in action at this link

Hey Andrew
Very much thanks for your Tutorials! They are soo great! But I need help...
When I open the CC Particular World like in the The Ring Tutorial then it looks different than by you.
When I take the position of the x position of the Null-Object I even see the Particular.
But when I paste that to y und z position, and edit the text like in your Tutorial, There isn't any particular... Only the information from the Particular World but not the "Shining splash"... Not the Particular I mean... Please help..

wow, yeah this is a hard one to follow for a newb, but its been fun. I got halfway through, then watched to the end. I will have to save it and hit it again later and try to multiply the default particle world and see if I can so anything halfway decent. Thanks Andrew!

i am on the 3rd duplicated part of the trapcode particular. and i can't seem to make it str8... it is still spreaded out and not in a str8 line as u had it

To "Ben - 04/29/2010" I too had problems, but with the Particle tray. I'm also using Win7 and CS4. My problems came from not having the "Particular" Plug-in - from "Trapcode". Yep, that's a plug-in. Other than that I get some errors or warnings when I open the project, but it seems to be working fine.
Hope this fixes your problem!

awesome tutorial, and amazingly straightforward.. was thinking about trying to recreate this effect since it's all over the tv these days, and i never imagined it was so simple.
inspired me to start looking at other effects to try and figure them out =]

I visited some of the tutorials here and its very BRILLIANT. As a designer I would like to evolve myself and my work from static designs into full blown Dynamic Cinematic Extravaganza (I hope I said it right!) And with your tutorials, I think that NEW Road for me won't be as BUMPY and ROCKY as I expect. More power Andrew and More Power to Your Site!

I'm using CS4 on Windows 7 and this tutorial is not working. I installed the provided presets and even restarted Ae, but those presets are not being recognized. The project file for this tutorial also requires a preset entitled 'Particular', but it is missing.
Anyone else having these issues?

ok, Andrew, does the install for orbit work for a mac because i am unable to install it. it says the file extension .ffx is unsupported. so im wondering if thats because the file doesnt work with a mac. Please e-mail me.

I don't know if anyone else found this but after the 3D rotate is applied and the radius set. My null object is going clockwise while Andrews is going counter clockwise...an I missing a step somewhere?? Very frustrating as I re started this tutorial like 3 times now. Anyone please!

I don't recall making/duplicating that layer in the tutorial, which is easy to figure out anyway, but just wanted to know which mask you duplicated, if you did, or did you create a new mask?

Your tuts are awesome as always!! And very easy to follow.
I have a question, i was following the tutorial, and when you go shrink down the duplicated thin spec layer, you end up with a 3rd mask in that layer, when you move the specular ring in to create the highlight on the top of the ring.

I gotta say, you're quite biased against After-Effect's built in particle system, but it can produce almost the same effect (of course not as good) but close.
using the liquify filter, I was able to produce a similar effect for the wavy lines.

Great tutorial!
But I have a problem... When I try to change the mask expansion on the circles it does not expand correctly. The mask expands more at the bottom and tod so the perfect circle turns more into an elipse... Can anyone explan to me why this is?

Is it possible to upscale this composition to 1280x720 after you've finished it in any other way besides increasing the scale and lining everything up again? It seems that everything but the flare and particle system stay rotating around the larger circle.

I started AE today, and using this awesome tutorial (which is extremely easy to understand). I was able to make this project. Except I dont have a licenced version of Trapcode Particular. Now I have some stupid red cross in the middle of my screen.

Wow man.. how fast is your computer O_O. You have no lag. If i were doing this on my 2GB ram I'd be sitting around forever waiting for frames to finish generating (not when rendering, but when working).

apologies. the problem has been fixed, i skipped the part with the cheap particleshitstem.. and thats where you resolve the problem by negatively producing speed slide.
for those who wonder about it, the way to make the null rotate counterclockwise so that it will follow the radial wipe is to make the nullobject's
slider control "speed" to negative 300 so -300. this will make the null object move at -300, > counterclockwise.

hey, great tut as always! but how do you make the particle ring orbit the y axis AROUND another 3D layer? Since particles are all on one layer, they can either be on top or bottom of another 3D layer, but what about both? I can get it to go around in a perspective camera view but the particles still render on top. Any ideas? thanks!

Nice tutorial!
But I have 1 problem, I can't seem to get the lens flare to be "3D". When it follows the path it stays 2D and moves very stiff. Anyone know how i can get the lens flare to twist while moving?

Ok I have been watching the Bachelor and the Biggest Loser and I kept seeing this amazing graphic. I was dying to figure out how to do this but I am such a beginner with AE I really didn't know where to start. Then I see your tut - Awesome Andrew!!! Thanks for taking the time to do these tuts.

Great tutorial, Andy! I'm having problems to follow it, but that's only because my AE crushed four times this morning. Just one thing... I don't have Particular, so I'm doing experiments with Particle World; and it's definitely not as easy as with Trapcode's, but I'm managing to recreate almost the same results as you did! The thing is, I had to use a displacement map with an animated fractal noise; but still, it works!

Basic AE question that deals with this tutorial.
Obviously this ring is a replica off of the new TNT graphics, but how do you make it so there is no background? its transparent so you can put the animation ontop of live footage like you would see on the bottom right of a TNT show?

Andrew how did you get so small size of your _-VC Ring-_ video?(it's only 1 mb.) In your "Render Queue" window the Outpup Module settings is Based on "Lossless". The size of my one with the same settings is naerly 66 mb.
What should I do? I don't understand.
With "Quick Time" settings the size 14 mb.
Sorry for stupid question if you will but I don't know what to do.

Kickin Tutorial!
A few things you can add to it if you like is make the background 3d, add a point light and add and expression that links the x and y of the light to the x and y of the flare. Then pull the light out about 200px and make the valueAtTime(time-.4) so it keeps up with the flare... animate the light intensitiy by pick whipping the lens flare brightness so it matches.. really makes it pop. like the old skool disney logo just thought i'd throw that in.

Okay once again you blow my mind, Mr. Kramer. I had been looking for a tutorial like this for EVER. And I didnt even know what software could make these kind of logos. I wanted one for my website, after my videos. A logo like this. I did what you said in the tutorial except with a twist so it fit my logo better which is an oval. I had a lil trouble with the animation of the null since it goes in a perfect circle but I managed to animate it myself Thanks alot!! You pimped up my website even further. You will see the logo in my next upcoming sampler! Thanks again, you be the best!

Mr.K you're talent with this program is very amazing. you've really helped develop my ability to use after effects. your explations of expresions are woth infinate times there weight in gold! i can't say thank you enough for the tricks and tips and basic training you've taught me!

The best tutorial yet Andrew.
I have been a huge admirer of Troika for five or more years now. Initially, watching their work made me want to quit. But then I realized they have a large team of artists working on their stuff, not just one or two designers. Working mainly in sports graphics, Troika inspired me to learn C4D and all the tricks in AE to enhance the 3D renders. Which leads me to wonder why you choose not to include Knoll Light Factory in your tutorials when you freely include Trapcode Particular?
The aspect of Troika's work I've never quite mastered is their use of reflection - the clean lines of the specularity. I've spent hours working on creating reflection objects - from planes to toruses - but I've failed to come up with as pleasing results as those Troika guys.

Wow, very cool.... I have been wanting to do this type of thing since seeing the TNT thingy. I think ABC also does this sort of thing with their new logo intro. Either way, it's a super-cool effect and I can't wait to play around with it and incorporate it into my videos. You are definitely Da Man once again Andrew. Many thanks....Next time, make a swirly ring around Sam's head as his eyes roll back into his head and turn white, then his face demon-morphs.......yeah baby.....OK, maybe that's a bit much, but I just want to see you mess with Sam's face again...
