I've watched it now, and I hounestly mustsay that I'm a tiny bit dissapointed.. The method was so simple! But I can't sat that I DIDNT learn anything, so I'm pleased:D

Heard you said for a while ago that you might show us some matchmoving inside of 3dsmax/C4D, aswell as photoshop and flash. If Videocopilot could evolve to a multi-program-learning-website, I would not need any expensive tutoring forward! THANKS for making this possible!

by Hans 02/25/2008
I was dissapointed when I saw what this tutorial was about. At first glance the method seemed simple and obvious but after watching it I was again in awe of how you add the extra touches that make it interesting and the surprise ending that wasn't given away in the description really brought it together and showed the less obvious use for those that are more creative.

Thank you for all that you have done for the amateur vfx community.
by Tacgnol 02/25/2008

Brilliant, and great tip on modifying footage prior to motion tracking. I actually tried this in a class last Saturday and couldn't figure out why it didn't help. Now I know to precompose!
p.s. Shame you had to remove the submitter's website option, I expect due to those horrible spammer types, *sigh*.
This is one of those tutorials I know I'll refer to many times. Thanks!!

So is this a technique if done forwards (and at a faster rate of course) one might use to create wounds?
Possibly?

Awesome! I love the playful example at the end, great stuff. I think it might help for that though if you had some sort of flesh-looking texture between the ski layer and the robot image, since it looked like the skin was sort of floating over the robot face but not quite on top of it, I'm not sure, it didn't look quite natural (but who am I kidding, you said it yourself "it's not natural"), and I thought grotesque looking gnarly flesh would solve the problem ;). Sweet new tutorial though, that's awesome!

Looking arround, seeing TV shows, movies, all kind of stuff, there is allways an Andrew Krammer effect, sound fluorish or something included. Sorry Andrew, but you are one big video monster eating world tv and movie scene with your knowledge. T H A N X
by Chandan 02/26/2008
i mean, what on earth is wroung with you Mr. Andrew Sir !!? People around are making such worthless tutorials on the subject and charging like hell for the same, while you are giving away gold for free!! I am sure people would queue up (i would) at 3 am in the morning to grab your DVD's from the store even if you were about to sell them!!

LOL, but good heavens there still are such generous people like you around who feel learning should be free and the very act of imparting your own knowledge to us lesser folks gives you this God like quality. No kidding. Back here in India, a guru/teacher is placed higher than the God himself and you are right up there.

I am looking to amke a career in the field of visual effects and motion graphics and you have been my greatest inspiration. One day, when i have made it, i will a major part of my success to you. Please do let us know if ever you plan a holiday trip to India and would not mind me playing a host to you (i know, that's too much to ask, but hey, who knows )

-regards,
Chandan

Hi, i have a little question, which is probably off topic, but I hope, someone will help:

I'm looking for some footage of a starting sequence of a standard 8,16 or 35mm film - you know, something like

"picture insert.....motor start....5...4....3.....2....."

if anybody knows, Ill be glad.... thx!

by Jason Tucker 02/26/2008
I just did the tutorial, but mine came out with a few glitches: The motion tracking seems to be slightly off. 1) So I am thinking that I re-track the footage (do I have to delete the old data or will it just overwrite it?) 2)While I can get the scars in the right position on the final comp. the footage seems to be in a different position in the subsequent smaller comps 3) I couldn't get the retiming quite right.

Any suggestions before i try again from scratch.

Hey Andrew, great tutorial. I had an idea for all of you out there, I might try this if I have time. Why not use the skin displacement, then REVERSE the healing process to make it look as if you were being attacked by flesh-eating parasites or something. Just something to think about.

You guys are brillant...
But there are some other questions in our mind like:

Which video camera is the cheapest in getting good quality video.

What Computer/Hardware should give us fast working and rendering.

And also something about lighting.

I hope you guys can even help very well in explaining them.

Andrew,

Great tutorial man! What would have been a great add-on for this one was to have light rays (VERY, VERY SUBTLE - not a McDonald's commercial kind of thing but something simple) when the wound heals. If not the light rays then a really strong glow around the edges.
