Is Sure Target 2 compatible with AE CS5?
Because it is not working on my system. I'm on a Mac and I've installed it in the Plug Ins folder, but no Video Copilot nor Sure Target heading appears in the Effects & Presets window.

Hey. I was having the same problem but I figured it out.
I'm on a 32-bit OS Mac and if you use the 32-bit plug-in in After Effects CS5 it doesn't recognize it so you have to use the 64-bit one no matter whether your OS is 32 or 64 bit. Hope that helped.

I have followed the steps to install the SureTarget 2.0.10 in the plugins folder. I still dont get any preset or plugin in my AE list? COuld this be because I have suretarget 1.5.1 installed?

Just copy the file to aplications > adobe after effects > plug-ins. Don't put it into plug-ins>effects. Ps: you gotta know if your mac is 32 or 64 though... I'm on a macbook pro , 64, running cs5, and doing ok. Works for me, so, not a mac problem.

Andrew, great tutorial on Sure Target ... keep having to come back to it as I forget various aspects but being a teacher ... have to say, it is Drop & Cover ... not sure where you got the "roll" but you are forgiven as you probably aren't on the West Coast. Stop Drop & Roll is what you do when your on fire. I've never heard of Drop & cover before, im guessing by covering you mean get under someplace hard, like a desk. since that's what your suppose to do when there's an earthquake

Hi Andrew,

I´ve just download this plug-in, it really seems to be really useful, I was looking yesterday at the tutorial and today I was put it on practice for the first time. But I had a problem.

I am on an animation project, in the scene I am making there is a car running in the middle of a landscape, it is not footage, it is all made by me in a 3d space in AE. The idea is that the camera focus on some part of the car while it is running. I tried to use the "sure target" plug-in as you taught in the tutorial but something goes bad.

I have made some null objects to which I want the sure camera to target, I parent this objects ith the car layer, this for the sake of follow the car in movement, but after stablish every keyframe changing from one to other of the targets in the Sure target menu, I realize that as the null objects have a relative cordinate position to their parent (i.e. the car layer) the sure target does not understand it and just go to the position each of the null objects have fixed.

I was thinking how to solve it and I think that I can solve it but It would be great to hear if you have some comments about it.

How do you set time to each target? I'm working with sure target, and the targets are videos, so i want each video to stay on screen until it finish and then move to the next target.

easy: when you are at you first target, keyframe it then go to the end of that target and keyframe it with the same number as the first time.
it will look like this:
1...........1;;;;;2...........2;;;;;;3.......3
with the ...'s as the time the video plays and ;;; for the movement between 2 videos

I cannot get the auto execute to work correctly on my mac. I make sure that sure target is selected, I have tried both command click and control click and I always get an error when I hit execute. The control button on a mac will not let me select multiple layers, that is why I tried the command button.

One problem I am having is that when I use Sure Target 2, my screen flashes. Anytime I click around or change values, my screen flashes real quick. Everything works, but I can see this getting real bad for my eyes.
I use a Mac if that helps.

It would be great if there was a way to delay the camera from following the POI, as if the camera is looking towards the direction the target is moving. Currently the target and the camera move in sync.

I was able to accomplish this by putting an expression on the null layer's x and y rotations, but it would be great if there was some sort of "follow delay".

Great tool! Thank you! However, in CS5 Mac I'm having a few glitches. When the plugin is first applied I get an error message, saying that the plugin can't be found and the expressions will be disabled. This is simply fixed by switching the expressions back on and then it works fine.
The other glitch is in rendering if OpenGL is enabled - it just doesn't like it and often crashes. This is the only plugin I use that seems to have this problem on a regular basis, though it does sometimes also occur with the Foundry's Camera Tracker.

Great plug in & great tutorial! I'm suddenly having an issue though. Every time I attempt to move the position of the null object, the X position automatically goes to 0.00 the first few times I try. Not only that, but it will also jump to 0.00 randomly for 1 frame without a keyframe or anything! Ghosts!

ARGH.. Why can't I get darker particles on light scenes like you. As soon as I set mine dark in CC or particular, they vanish completely!

I downloaded the Sure Target 2 file but its extension is .plugin and i put it under my plugins but when I try to access it, it wont show up. I also put it under the Video Copilot presets but the problem is it has to be an .ffx to be a preset. Please help :) Btw, this is an awesome plugin and I really want to have it! Thanks!

I had a similar problem. I m using vista 64 bit with both after effects cs4 and cs5. But it worked when i installed 32bit for cs4 and 64bit for cs5. Hope this helps. And thanks Andrew Kramer. This is an Awesome plug-in. Saved me a lot of time.

Paste Sure Target 2.0 into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files\Required and it will show up under Effects.

Just installed Sure Target 2.0. But I'm getting lots of crashes when I try to preview my animations. I'm running windows 7 (64bit) with CS5. Is there an update on the way. If you are having problems installing the plugin in windows 7 x64 try this... copy the 32 bit windows plugin instead. It worked for me.

Just found a problem. If you do not have enough memory available to create the baked camera, the plugin will show you an error, and it will not let you exit. The error will repeat until you free up memory (RAM, I presume).

Just a workflow tip to those interested: On my mac the "u" key doesn't work as explained on the Sure Target layer. The expressions still show up, but if you hit "u" and then "shift-ee" you'll be left with just the keyframe layers.

Hi Mr. Kramer,

I just wanted to let you know that the SureTarget plugin feature "auto rotate" does NOT work if you change the orientation of a layer. It only works if you change the x, y, or z rotation of the layer. Just something to think about for an update. You're the man!

Hi Andrew - I am using ST 2 - have found that when Baking Camera I cannot do more than 30 secs selection with out AE CS4 crash. I have 8Gigs Ram working on MAC BP 3.06 Core 2 Duo. I am having to split the time line up into 30 second batches. Have you had these issues?

hey, so i had a big problem when using this yesterday to when doing a tvc, after i set up the 10 targets i wanted and key framed when each would be shown, i would then go back and make adjustment like re-frame with dolly or and wiggle or anything and all data would be lost? the targets are still in the target destination drop down but when i scrub through the timeline, no animation :/ is this just an old problem thats been fixed?
