I am trying out this tutorial and I have one issue so far. In my version of Mocha AE there is no option for align properties. It is not in the panel as it is for you in the tutorial. Is there another way to get to it?

I already made it through your file and resources and now I'm trying to apply it in another footage and this time on a hand (just to complicate it even more hahaha).
So, I already made my illumination map but I have an issue when copying the tracking to it... when I do, it kind of scale down the map. I already checked if the compositions are with the same size and everything is looking fine.
Any tip to fix it?

This is not a spoon-feed tutorial where every step needs to be explained or shown. Before you gonna take this tutorial make sure that you know that very basic after effects.

It doesn't matter what I do, the tracking for the right eye jumps completely off track at frame 13. It takes a liking to Sam's glabella wrinkle at that frame.

to all the people having problems....dont look to this man for every answer - you will never learn. You have to start thinking based on what you know - all of it - figure it out yourself. Not trying to knock anyone but its a creative process to be an artist like Andrew - if you ask every question you are not being an artist you are being a clone - cant say enough good things Andrew - shares his knowledge without trying to ripp you off. No adds in his tutorials says it all. Best of luck folks

Could anyone please help me? When I copy the tracking data from the solid layer with the Grid and Corner Pin applied to it; and Paste that info to my Illumination layer- it shrinks. To a point that makes it unusable.....I have gone back and redone it four times with the same results.... i'm loosing it. lol

Hey guys, I see that a lot of us have the same problem... And here is a solution!
Basically, we all get the perfect tracking, but when we paste it, it just gets messed up, right?
So what do you do?
When you begin, instead of making a new composition, just take the video and drag it to the 'Create a new composition' button. This way, all the comp setting will fit the video and there will be no problems with the tracking data you import.

I don't have the button too but you can select the layer and them right click on it and choose Align selected surfaces.

The more I do this walk through the more I get pissed off. I have perfect tracking, yet every time I copy past the tracking data to the Illumination Map, it will never track right. I go to the first frame, copy paste. Not correct. Go to the last frame, copy paste, not tracking correctly. Either you have some defaults set up that you aren't telling us, or you are using a completely different version.
My illumination doesn't track at all with the copy paste tracking information. It's not the right size or anything.. lol
I'm doing each step as you do, yet not coming up with the same tracking copy over to the illumination map etc. I can't get past this step.

I had the same problem.
In mocha, under the tab "layer control" there is a button at the bottom of the tab that says; "push the surface(s) to the corners of the image" when you hold the mouse over the button. While having your tracking layer selected, click the button and then export your tracking data.
It worked for me

Ok, so I have read through all comments on this tut and searched google and i can't find an answer! My first motion track works perfectly and everything seems to go swimmingly until I have to paste the tracking data onto the illumination map. The illumination floats away from his face and moves as if the two aren't related. I am working on AE CC and had trouble finding the align surface button (which someone in the comments found so i dealt with that). Anyone know how to fix this problem!?????

Hey, great work. First time i did it, it worked fine.
Second time I did it. After I made the look of the glow look good, i was to align the data to the illuminate comp, once I did it, the glow was two inches in the wrong direction and wouldn't align with the face. help. much appreciated.

This is looking amazing, just one thing: the vines are looking flat, but a cheek is normaly rounded. So is there a way of correcting this?

Hey I'm having a problem, i know it's got to be a setting somewhere but I just can't figure it out :S
at around 5:28 in your video you draw an outline with the pentool and when you connect the last dots you just see the lines. when I do the same thing it desselects everything of the footage except for the part within the outline and well it just screws everything up. please help!

There is no align surface button for me in Mocha ae CS6 version 2.6.2. I follow all the other tracking steps and when I paste the tracking info to the correct layer it always get skewed and looks really weird. I can only assume its from not aligning the surface. Please help ASAP

I'm having trouble with my tracking data. I did exactly as the video says and I keep getting an error with the data. "After Effects Error: Corner Pin could not allocate a buffer larger than 30000 pixels in either dimension. (516) (25 :: 56)"

First of all: awesome tutorial once again. Thank you so much Andrew. Second: I found this wallpaper of a dark, shadow like warrior, and I wanted to use this to create a black and white looking effect where the bones block the inner light. My question however is: do you need skin, or can you also do this over clothes, and would hair mess around with your lighting?

For me in AE 4 - after pasting the corner pin data from Mocha, the illumination layer looks as if it's hovering a few feet away from his face, instead of conforming flush with his face like in the example.
I've tried using both more and fewer points in Mocha, as well as x-spline vs. bezier; but always end up with the same results after pasting into AE.
Anybody else have this problem?

Even the ever popular "Demon Cam" gives a sense of magic touch to the mobile platform. I would formally suggest that putting that app on blackberry and android format for flexibility. Not all of us are iPhone users.

My mocha when tracking the Couldn 't write to the file cache. Do ensure that the cache directory specified in the preferences is not full or write protected, could you tell me how to solve! thanks

Great tutorial as always. It might be cool to cross-link the tutorials with the 3rd party tools you use. In this case Mocha AE. Because I'm wondering if I plunk down the $495 for it, what other tutorials do you have for it? Just a thought. Thanks again for the tutorials. Keep it up!

One nit-picky comment... Something in your video compression caught my eye. Every three seconds or so, the image "pops" or jumps. (I assume this is the result of a keyframe distance of something close to three seconds.) It's quite distracting to me, at least.

One nit-picky comment... Something in your video compression caught my eye. Every three seconds or so, the image "pops" or jumps. (I assume this is the result of a keyframe distance of something close to three seconds.) It's quite distracting to me, at least.

This is a great tutorial and alws so interesting to learn from you. But i have a request, could you make a tutorial with a non-evil concept?? I mean something good and not evil.
