For some reason, when I attempt to move the rectangle mask to the bottom of my title, it moves whatever it was highlighting down, kind of like cutting something in paint and then moving it. How do I fix this?

the expression of the tool doesn't appear to me so i can't write the instructions like "wiggle... and stuff" neither parent the position whit the slider and you know... how do i activate or idk

The tutorials are all number. This one is 104 so I assume he is referring to 103 which is 3d ball dispersion.

You export the movie (Composition>Make Movie) and click render in the top right corner of the render queue window.

In the 10 Free After Effects BASIC training, it has a video. The icon with the green star. All you have to do it go to Compisition>render queue and cick "render" for more detailed instrunctions, go to the basic training vid.

Hi, i have a problem, I do everything you say exactly as you do it, but when i remove my mask path effect on all my duplicated layers, the animation remains and it breaks up as it is revealed by the mask. How do I delete this mask animation so the full text is visible, and then proceeds to shatter

At about 10:28 he moves all of the yellow layers over. Reason being its 2 cuts and I'm guessing he must have moved them over (or redone it) not on video so that the text sits stationary for a few frames before shattering. If you follow this video exactly then its an unneeded step if you just want it to start shattering immediately. Threw me through a loop so I thought I'd share in case anyone else got confused by why their sandstone colored layers weren't 14 frames over as they suddenly appear to be in the video.

when you click on this tutorial, it says watch and project files, if you click projrct files, youll download all the necessary stuff for the project, like the script or the metal texture for the text ;)

Hey me and my 12 year old son are trying to learn this stuff and when you seemed to make a layer disapear about 1 minute before we were to add rectangular mask, you didnt tell us what you did; delete, merge etc? VERY frustrating. I just deleted it, not really knowing what to do. Please mention those small things so we dont get lost, thnx soooooooooooooo much

he did not merge anything. I was figuring it out too. All he did was undo the duplicate text and worked on the first text title (guessing! coz it's not there). Make the shape. You'll get the same result as shown in his tuts. I did it and works just fine. Sometimes teacher forget some things that we just have to figure it out. XD all the best!

Your sequence must be specific.. example start at the at your first copy to your last copy of the composition.. and you must play your 1st composition at 0 - to your ending frame...

What does he do at 6.36??????? And how come when he uses the rectangle tool shortly afterwards, the rest of the text turns to black?
When I use the tool, my text is still all visible.
I have a feeling it has to do with whatever he does at 6.36, but he doesn't say and I can't work it out for the life of me!

I think it's just because your settings are different. With the rectangle tool he is creating a mask, whereas you are probably just selecting the area. for me, using the rectangle tool automatically creates a shape so instead I go to layer, mask, new mask and then you can use the pen tool to edit the shape of the existing mask ("mask 1" which is around the whole composition), or the rectangle tool works too but you have to delete "mask 1" in order to see your new mask ("mask 2") work the way it did for andrew. there's probably an easier way but that's just how I do it :P hope that helps

I tried to PreCompose iWinterHD, and it ends up masking both the text and the shatter effect. It's definitely something else he does at 6:36 but I have no clue :/

for all of you confused at what he did at 10:07 to 10:17. due to the time skip he never explained what he did. all you have to do is go to the red layer move the starting keyframe to whatever frame you want the shattering to start, Andrew used frame 14 as his start, and which frame you want it to end. Then you just slide the top 12 layer to the frame where the first keyframe is. Hope this helps :)

You may not be at the beginning of the comp. At the beginning the text is still in one piece, a few frames in and all the pieces can be off the screen entirely.

Not sure if this is what he did or not, but if you apply the affect to an adjustment layer instead of the layer actually shattering, then you can offset the adjustment layer and delay the effect.

You can go into the Effects and Presets pane and search for Bevel Alpha. This should be installed by default.

Its extremely hard to understand any of this even if i follow a tutorial. I have tried about 10 different tutorials now and couldn't even get through 1!!! Its ridiculously annoying to complete a 20-40 min tutorial for only a 30 second clip. Its just not worth it. please for future releases make something more user friendly. Thank you

Hey guys, I figured out a way to easily control WHEN the text shatters... Instead of adding the CC Pixel Polly effect to the text layer, add the effect to an adjustment layer on top of the text. Then you can just drag the layer in the time line wherever you want the shatter to take place.
I assume that there is a way to control that in the actual effect controls but until I find it, this way is super easy and works perfectly....
