Andrew, if we are adding a night vision effect it would be closer to real world if we add some lights to the cars, they shouldn't be driving in the dark with no lights.

Easier, yes but you'd completely miss out on the essential subtleties like the edge bleed and blur or the optics being applied to the underlying footage...basically all the adjustment layers that have been applied over the footage layer. That's where the magic lies.

Hey, cool tutorial, awesome presets and textures.
One thing though, if you were looking through night vision goggles, it would presumably be at night, which would mean the vehicles would all have their headlights on. :)

I can't believe you made a tutorial without Element 3D It's great to see that you can do it the "old school way". Just kidding. I think it is a very good tutorial. With those easy steps you can create a nice sniper, paparazzi shot.
I wanted to set up a transition between a wide angle shot to a scope using element 3D but there is no sniper rifle in the projectiles and weapons pack...no!

You guys do really great stuff. We're using it on our television series. Any chance that you'll be making a plugin or something available for Final Cut Pro X? The last software upgrade from Apple fixed many of the niggling issues we were having with it, and it's the fastest for adding effects to video clips. It would be nice to not have to bail out of it and go into AE to treat a scene.

The biggest thing I think this is missing is some visible Chromatic Aberration. A lot of the time in scopes, the color channels end up offsetting quite dramatically and it'd help with the realism.

Tim, real lens chroma aberration appears on the edges of the lens, not everywhere as you wrote. To make what effect you need to use lens compensation effect whith different settings to each RGB channel. But there is a plugin that does this without duplicating each channel, will not be called because of advertising=)

You can easily achieve this effect by setting of a copy of the footage to the left an to the right a few pixels and color it green/blue and red for example. If you play a little with the transfer modes you should have a fake CA. You could use the RGB effect from VC TWITCH and freeze it, too.
