Cool effect Andrew!

I sort of got it but I'm having trouble when I start orbiting the camera. I get this weird reflection orientation effect. I wanted to have that default separated reflection of a text.

Any ideas?

Hey Andrew Kramer,

downloaded the plug in and see it within CS6 After Effects but for some reason doesn't create the reflection. Does this not work with CS6?

You need to first set the reflection plane. Just click on the (+) icon and than click where you want the reflection to be (the bottom of the object normally).

You have to copy the .pulgin file for mac,
Not the .aex file :)

I enjoyed this tutorial very much (like I do with all of your other tutorials). I especially liked the way that you demonstrated some the possible problems that may arise and that you then also went into detail showing how to resolve such problems.

I tried installing this for After Effects CS5.5, but it isn't appearing in the Effects menu.

I pasted in the 32-bit version of VCReflect.aex into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\Plug-ins

Is this correct?

Interesting side effect. Not sure if this is intentional or just missed in the tut but:

I set up a text layer, made it 3D, precomped it, set the reflection up looking straight on and when I rotated the 3D layer in the master comp (where my pre comp was nested) I didn't need to skew the reflection. It matched my rotation on the y axis.

After doing a search, I found out that it's the optical flair plugin (video copilot product) under Optical Flares (PC)\Optical Flares Textures\Glass

If you don't Optical Flairs plugin, then I don't know.

I downloaded the reflect fx but it doesn't work on my 32bit AE CS4, so i'm wondering if i've got the new 64 bit version?

i know this is an old tut but I had the vc reflect and it worked for me. My computer crashed and lost the plugin. I download the latest plugin but I can not seem to make this work. I can not find out how to shorten the reflection. Duh. Can not find a tut on this version. Please help.

Don't know if this will help you, but this happened to me: running 64bit Windows and copied the 64bit plugin into the right folder, but it didn't show up in AE. However, I tried copying the 32bit version in there and it worked fine.

Many thanks to Andrew and co for taking the time put it together, it's saved me hours.

Hey Andrew K. in Turkey , people couldn't find any tutorials about the Ae. ?f they find ,it will be bad and unquality everytime. Also there is no source which is in Turkish language. I think it is not only Turkey's problem but also in all countries which are not speak English suffer from that. My suggestion is that ; you should add some basic subtitles in variety languages to your tutorials. If you do that i am sure your web site's followers will increase.

hey andrew,

great tutorial! i just have a slight problem: what if i wanted the reflected text to have a shadow as well? the adjustment layer prevents the shadow of the text layer from being rendered on the plane...

Hi Andrew, thx a lot for this great plugin; it looks great! However, I keep getting the error "RAM preview needs 2 or more frames to playback" when i try a RAM preview. When i turn the effect off the problem is gone. Have played around with the memory and multiprocessing settings but still no luck. I am working in AE CS4 on a Mac with 4GB memory. Hope you can help 'cause i'd really like to make this work...

It doesn't work in CS5 because After Effects CS5 is a 64 bit application only so previous pluggins will not work, you will need 64 bit pluggins if they are available.

If the box is 2 or 3x thicker then the one in the example the angle is way too harsh for the bottom reflection created from this plugin to look good -- even with the skew adjustments. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm using CS3 and macpro however my computer gives the rendering time 6 hours. ? tried with the 6 hours, but after rendered, it wasn't render..I used to try the mac 32bit version.
