This plugin works good except when I render it to a quicktime mov the adjustment layer does not render and I get the text intersecting with the layer below it. I am using AE CC 2015

This plugin is not working with Adobe After Effects CC in 2016. It looks like this has been an issue since at least September though for other users.

hello andrew, the plug in doesn't seem to work with CC2015, i did what's explained in the tutorial, so is there something wrong with the plug-in or .. something else. really need this please help!

Looked great but had rendering issues at the end. After checking the expressions for possible errors and rendering another project, I began rendering a few layers at a time until I reached the ones with the vc. Those layers alone did not render, until I removed the vc from them.
Outside of that your tutorial is two thumbs up.

The plug-in doesn't work with Ray-Traced extruded 3D text or objects on AE CS6

Cool effect Andrew!
I sort of got it but I'm having trouble when I start orbiting the camera. I get this weird reflection orientation effect. I wanted to have that default separated reflection of a text.
Any ideas?

I tried installing this for After Effects CS5.5, but it isn't appearing in the Effects menu.
I pasted in the 32-bit version of VCReflect.aex into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\Plug-ins
Is this correct?

Interesting side effect. Not sure if this is intentional or just missed in the tut but:
I set up a text layer, made it 3D, precomped it, set the reflection up looking straight on and when I rotated the 3D layer in the master comp (where my pre comp was nested) I didn't need to skew the reflection. It matched my rotation on the y axis.

i know this is an old tut but I had the vc reflect and it worked for me. My computer crashed and lost the plugin. I download the latest plugin but I can not seem to make this work. I can not find out how to shorten the reflection. Duh. Can not find a tut on this version. Please help.

Hey Andrew K. in Turkey , people couldn't find any tutorials about the Ae. ?f they find ,it will be bad and unquality everytime. Also there is no source which is in Turkish language. I think it is not only Turkey's problem but also in all countries which are not speak English suffer from that. My suggestion is that ; you should add some basic subtitles in variety languages to your tutorials. If you do that i am sure your web site's followers will increase.

Hi Andrew, thx a lot for this great plugin; it looks great! However, I keep getting the error "RAM preview needs 2 or more frames to playback" when i try a RAM preview. When i turn the effect off the problem is gone. Have played around with the memory and multiprocessing settings but still no luck. I am working in AE CS4 on a Mac with 4GB memory. Hope you can help 'cause i'd really like to make this work...

It doesn't work in CS5 because After Effects CS5 is a 64 bit application only so previous pluggins will not work, you will need 64 bit pluggins if they are available.

If the box is 2 or 3x thicker then the one in the example the angle is way too harsh for the bottom reflection created from this plugin to look good -- even with the skew adjustments. Does anyone have any advice?

Just a quick note/fix that I ran into rendering a comp with the reflection plugin "Mirror 1.0.13" on the Mac.
After some A/B testing to identify the culprit, I found setting anything above 0 on the Blur in the Reflect plugin - caused a render failure.
The Easy fix - don't do that.
The Better fix. Render Reflection only. Add a fast blur-type effect processed after the reflection geometry stuff is done. Then CC-Composite as shown in Andrew's tut above.
Not a big deal - but figur'd I should share the trial/error results.
I'm on Mac OX 10.6.2 with 8 GB RAM - and during this testing I tried with and without enabling the disk cache.
Tested using a few decent sized RGB, PNG and PSD, files with alpha. Renders failed with 1500 x 1500 and 3K x 3K sizes...didn't test smaller sizes.
Tested with the native AE renderer and Nucleo Pro...same.

Could you do a tutorial similar to "VC Reflect" except with the reflection on a lake (so you can see the title "VC Reflect", the reflection of "VC Reflect", the ripples in the water affecting the reflection, and the shimmer from the water affecting the title)?

Hey Andrew, great tutorial! However i have a few problems, well one actually, when I double click the plug-in, the after effect tells me: "After Effect Errors: Can't support file"VCRefelct.penguin", unsupported filetype or extension. ( 0 :: 1 ) " so.... yeah.

I watched about 5 mins of the tutorial when it struck me how useful this will be in creating accurate shadows. With the blur and falloff options especially, better and more realistic shadowing should be available in 3D space, even better if you can link the rotational values to your light source.
Is there any way to associate a custom layer for distortion of the reflected layer, ie, displacement mapping and bump mapping?

WHen I drop it on a 3D layer, I get nothing. No reflections.
The folder went in the plug ins folder and it shows up in my effects presets. However, I get no reflections. I've restarted. I'm on a new iMac intel.

Actually, without the "fix" that you posed of the precomposition of text to keep the reflection with the text, the animation of text looks realistic. You just pick you "floor point" and then animate your text, and get matching reflections (e.g. falling text with "rising" reflections)

i'm not sure if u'll read this but i have an idea about lens flare...
that there be a glow from the flare that will get over other layers. not only the circles from the flare over other layers but a glow from the the core, as if i had an object right in front of the sun...

If you were having trouble loading the plug-in with AE 7 or a PPC mac with a G5 processor, try the new build. Just download the project again.

Instead of duplicating the text comp and changing the transfer mode, would it be possible to just add a "Composite Mode" button in the plug-in? Would this be something we can see in a revised version?
