Great tutorial! But as it would be to do the reverse? That is, that the title instead of low relief is high relief, what is falling wall to reveal the embossed lettering.

Thank you!!

This guy is awesome, no doubt, but sometimes he gets going too fast and becomes very hard to follow. Also it is a bit hard to figure out where he is getting the apps.

I'm really confused!
When I created the shatter pre-comp and placed it on top of the text pre-comp, it looked exactly how it should look like, the concrete shattered down and the text was revealed. I don't know why Andrew had to go through all that stuff afterwards...

Look again! By setting the mode to "pieces only", it renders only the chunks that break off. Notice the letters are visible before they crumble. Setting to pieces shows only the broken chunks. This is important for the shadows in the next step. Otherwise the pieces will cast as shadow before they break-off.

That's exactly what I was asking myself, too. You cn even see it in the tutorial. Andrew just sets the render setting of the shatter effect from "all" to "pieces" (10.25). He says that this might make the compositing easier later on. Well, I didn't get it anyway :D

This is the kind of stuff I've been wanting to learn. Now...which packs do I need to buy for all of this? I only have the Adobe products. All of them. I don't have any 3D software like 3DMax or any of those.

Pretty cool effect, not cheap at all :D

Adjusting all the falling dust opacities at once was a terrible idea, though. Doing them separately and letting them last just for a few frames renders for a much better result and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Using a "rough" font works great too, since the inherent alpha adds perfectly to the whole crumbling effect.

This works in AE6.5 pro as well, you just have to be a little creative with the plugins you have, if you don't have all the bells and whistles you have to get a bit creative here's a link to what I created and am still working on: http://claygraphics.phase2.net/Shahnratitle.mov
