Just use AE Mocha if your camera tracker locks up like mine did in AE CC. Mocha was extremely easy. Use a spline to mask our the humans and mocha does the rest.

You know what i just noticed watching this video after so long. I noticed that when the pilot is speaking its actual pilot footage of him speaking except in the end when the pilot was about to say in about ten minutes" or what ever pilot was gonna say, AK put his own voice in there and changed it to 10 minutes. haha awesome man.

I'm sure you're flooded with comments about Element 3D right now, but I wanted to just take a moment to say thanks for making this tutorial - actually all of your tutorials. I was watching this last night, and was surprised to see how many things I learned from it that apply in so many situations. I watch all of your tutorials again and again and this one will be no exception. I just thought you should know how much I appreciate the time you spend teaching us these things. Thanks! Hope you and your growing family are doing well. Blessings,

I've actually just noticed something, in the tutorial you create the shack effect after Sam is out of frame however you create the shake effect in the original while they are both in frame, why? Also I did notice the one problem, the one thing that makes this fake. There is wayy to much leg room, there would need to be another seat before the next window in front of Sam. Ok, keep up the great work.

You didnt put fire to the engine, that is actually the cover to the hydraulics.

And further more, Harrison Ford was not playing in Con Air, he was the president in AIR FORCE ONE

Andrew.
I would like to ask you when you have the time, just give us some tips to make the 3D model look more realistic.

I've made a plane but it doesn't look that realistic, I mean, the wing-sun reflection, what material did you used... How did you composite the sky (did you do it inside of after effects or in 3D max...) you know...

Just some lines of tips please (:

I would thank you so much.
Manu
That's the same that I'm wondering, if you see the short film 405, the airplane has the same realistic reflections.
I'm thinking that have something to do with the surface characteristics (metal, gloss or not gloss) and how you make that material reflect (like a mirror map of the background) and also the lights (how you set and what types of lights were used in the creation of the scene)...

But I'm just guessing, I don't know not even a 5% of what Mr. Kramer knows....

So Please Andrew, can you give us some tips for general knowledge, I'm using Lightwave...! Thanks!!

Hey! Great video work!

But as a professional aerospace engineer and hopefully Hollywood science consultant I have to say that you are confusing the engines with those canopy shaped things that are actually fairings. Only used to move the flaps back and forth. So, it is really hard to believe that they can explode when they are made of sheet aluminium and only full of gears and bike chains.

But again, great tutorial. Congratulations on fooling our minds!

Hey Andrew, its Madus. thanks for another great tutorial. Wish you'd tell us a bit how you lighted that plane in max, so realistically cool!

to all : I tried using the native tracker of AE since I don't have the camera tracker yet,and it worked smoothly! Just turn on scale and position when using AE's built in tracker, that should do the job since the camera move is only forward.

Alright... Compared to your other work this tutorial isn't... golden, not that we expect you to be the goose with the golden eggs, but lately the tutorials have been focused on certain shots and the techniques used, I'm afraid, don't have as wide a range of usefulness as others you've shown.

I'd think a more helpful idea would be to make a full tutorial about that layer styles post you did on the blog, the one with the text. That has potential, at least in my opinion, more so than a wing on fire...

I think you're moving away from the AE spectrum lately and I don't really know why. Sure, it's still compositing and some of the tips are useful but... it's just not as useful as some of the prior stuff.

In any case, thanks for the tutorial.
Kevin
I feel i may have some insight into Mr. Kramer's brain... I've been following him since before this website, when he was doing tutorials for Creative Cow and I must say, with the tutorials on this site and the tutorials that come with his outstanding products, he has covered nearly everything there is to know in after effects to create nearly anything in AE. I work in the industry and I see an astounding amount of video copilot inspired stuff. No one talks about it, like they thought of it themselves of course.

Between Mr. Kramer's blogs and tutorials on this site he has covered EVERYTHING to either get you started or keep your project moving forward. His last 20 tutorials seem to be more specialized shots that make you think outside the box. He doesn't and shouldn't need to keep going over the basics. The basic tutorials seem to be behind him, revolutionary new plug ins and specialized tutorials seem to be in front of him. Peace be with you all and thank you Mr. Kramer for all of your contribution to the community.
David
@alexander sooner or later... you will have to move up to 3D compositing software, and unify it with AE, that's what really is all about.

It depends of what you're trying to do, if you're doing motion graphics, sure!, the layer styles tutorial would be very helpful, but if you're doing some deeper stuffs this definitely would help a lot!.

Hi Andrew ,
Nice tutorial i like it so much , you helped me a lot..by the way , those 2 stuffs on wing aren't part of engines they are part of wing flaps ,specifically ,,Flaps holders,, just look at this photo of double-jet airplane Boeing 737 NG .http://www.civilaviation.eu/images/Boeing/B737-7_N745SW.jpg Sometimes are ,in these parts of the wing, located emergency fuel drain valves ,most in Airbus's aircrafts . Man "We had some aeronotics engineers look @ the plane" lmao. Andrew I do agree with the o thers, we need some 3D tuts from you You are 2nd to none as far as tutorials go. I realize that you make money using action essentials and such in your AE tuts, just need to make a pay section to your site for us who are serious about tutorials from someone as talented as you. I would be much happier paying you 25 a moth instead of lynda.

Wicked Tutorial as always Andrew! I'm a film Student in Toronto and you have taught me so much about after effects it's truly amazing. But I'm getting to the point now, as a lot of people who have been following all your tutorials are, where I can't advance much further until I go outside of AE and start really learning something like 3DS Max (which I have a copy of but am awful with).

It would be awesome if you could start up a series on a 3D program like 3DS to compliment the AE tutorials. Just a thought I know you must be crazy busy!

Cheers from Canada,
Dave

Hi to all AE Junkies and to the man with the voice my gf hates after approx. 100.000 tuts going through the livingroom.....

Great tut, new techniques, some familiar.

I'm definitly in need of some exceptional tutting on a 3D program to take AE to the next level.

For example the plane in this tut but more on the Text like Andrew used in de DEMON Cam trailer.

I have 3DS Max, give it some serious attention but I lag the understanding in 3D modelling.

SO ANDREW, CAN YOU GIVE A SHORT BUT EFFECTIVE TUT ON THIS TOPIC OR IN LAG OF TIME GIVE A DIRECTION OF WHERE TO FIND QUALITY TUTS REGARDING MODELLING IN 3DS MAX ?????

My greatness is about to reach rabies.

Great tutorial, thanks. Andrew - on camera tracking: Most - if not all - tracking apps (I use PFTrack) allow for camera lens input, as you demonstrated in the tutorial. How do you handle a...say 35mm lens in your tracking app, when it is mounted on a full frame vs. a crop frame camera (like the 7D). Would you always input "35mm" regardless, or...

Thanks in advance...Mike

I need to know this too...I have a T2i, and a 35mm lens gets turned into...um....almost 50mm on my camera? So which is it? Please please please....

Have anyone noticed that when Andrew apply the keylight plugin, there is a part of the clothes near the neck of the other guy, not Sam (i don't remember his name)turns into blue, due to it's green original color. It's a small piece but take a look.

Great job by the way.
Mike

His name is Tino.
Bee Ren

I think that piece is a mix between blue+green, so when Andrew apply key to the green screen , that piece become transparent, and the blue amount still remain, that piece keep changing everytime the background changed..

You can reasearch 3D tutorials online. A good site is 3dtotal.com may get you started! If you don't have the resources to buy 3DS, Maya, Cinema 4D ETC, you could download a program called blender for free.

Hi Dhruv, I agree but you have to admit that would have been a lot for andrew to cram into one episode, bet he was worried how he would after releasing the teaser, but he did the right thing focusing more on the 2d aspects in AE for people with it. Even that was scrubbed fairly quick just to cover all the bases. Really did his walk throughs on great shots in such little time. BUT i do agree, Dhruv, Andy, I wanna see the 3d aspect too of Kramerican Airlines
CRoblex
I'm not agree, sorry. This is not a 3D tutorials website, and Mr. Kramer is not a 3D professional designer, and he doesn't need to be. That's another thing. You guys have tons of specialized 3D websites and tutorials for tons of different softwares. VideoCopilot is specialized in After Effects, with some necessary tips for other softwares sometimes, like 3DMax, Camera Tracker, Boujou, Photoshop... But that's it.

Why people doesn't ask for Photoshop tutorials too, for example? Because they know it already? OK, then learn 3d design for yourselves too. It's exactly the same matter.

Let Mr. Kramer focus his attention in AE, please, and stop this kind of complains. You should be thankful for ALL this FREE amazing tutorials.

And, as always, excuse my poor level of English, please. Thanks.

By far the best tutorial. Also, those things you call engines are not even the engines. They are called flap fairings. From the seat that Sam is sitting in, you wouldn't even be able to see the engines themselves.

This tutorials great, but i really thought you were going to go over more of the 3D integration, specifically how to put in the whot of the plane falling, and just flying through the air. In other words i really want you to start covering more 3D Max elements and tutorials so we can do the full scene, not just part of it. Thanks though for all the awesome training so far though.

I am constrantly surprised at how you actually put together these shots. I thought I had this one worked out, but I find you're not even using any 3D elements in the shot. I was sure you had at least used a 3D wing.

So cool and enlightening as always. And worth the wait - Cheers!
