If you rotate the composition with the camera tool, blood cells are still flat fragments.
Try changing the particle type to "Sprite"

My uncle is currently battling Pancreatic Cancer, and as a Multimedia designer I was looking for a creative approach to satisfy my urge to raise awareness for cancer research.

The music is actually UK band Massive Attack's hit single 'Teardrop' from 1998. As a note I can say, I've actually been to Portishead (where the band have their origins) and I fully understand why they are crying...
Anyhow, you should check out the video on Youtube as it has some amazing animatronic effects, visually not very far from the style of this tutorial!

by chance, I was watching the movie Ghost starring Patrick Wayne Swayze. I am happy that Mr. Kramer included that example from this movie to educated us how to make the effect as real as in a movie like Ghost.

Its been a while you gave the world this awesome tutorial Andrew, but yesterday I've seen this (not very well) Movie "Cyborg Soldier". The artists in charge for the the title sequence used EXACTLY this tutorials animation. Nice to see your your great work in action Andrew. Keep the good work!

Wow, I've not actually done this yet, although I have with the cloud tutorial. But it looks stunning, and once you get your head around it, actually quite easy *(compared to creating each of the blood cells in a 3D app, lighting/animating etc)*

Andrew, thanks for a great tutorial, I toyed around with it quite a bit, making the camera dive into and follow the bloodstream etc.
I have one problem with the custom particles though, when I set them to random loop they keep disappearing along the way. I can fix it by setting them to current time (only working option) but then they are quite uniform. There is no blank frame in my particle animation, I don't know what it could be. Does anybody know?
Any help is very much appreciated

damn... i wanted sam in this one. why didn't you allow him to be nude? just track some clothes. there's i nice tut on videocopilot.net called "demonface" and... you know... putting trousers i a scene can't be much harder than sunglasses, can it? ^_^°

Love this tute. Love all the tutes.
A couple of months ago i had never used AE but i watched a few tutes and had a great understanding of the software before i even opened it the first time.
Just a question / suggestion for an expantion on this blood tute.
I was wondering how it would be possible to created a pumping blood cell scene ie, the blood cells pump from the left hand side and ease to a holt (possibly even reverse a little) then get pumped further to the right instead of being a constant stream coming from the emmitter. so you get the effect that the heart is pumping the blood?
btw i cant use 3d software as i suck.

Ha, I was just thinking of some DVD's I purchased with video learning tuts and can only think how hard it is to concentrate for extended periods of time while watching these things. Almost to the point of falling asleep in my chair. On the other hand, your tuts are a BLAST to watch. I find myself laughing almost everytime I see a new one of your video tuts.

Hey Andrew, tutorial is great, but I when I followed along and when I used the project files, my blood particles seem to... spasm. Any idea why? I have 1 gig of ram, is that not enough? I've never really had a problem like this in After Effects so far. Well, thanks for the tut anyway.

worked on this all nite and early morning . came out really well . but WOW at the render time my computer shut down trying to render it the first time . had to change some stuff around . thanks alot i went and got 3ds max just so i can follow along with you . and it seems easier then c4d.

Very interesting. I have never used 3D studio max before, but I may look into it, as I'm sure I could learn much about from you. I (we) really appreciate the time that you take in order to bring these tutorials to the public in an easy to follow, and humorous way. One of a kind.

HOLY FARGGEN TUTORIAL BATMAN!! Impossible to top the onslaught of complements gushing in, but I have to bow in amazement. Kudos to you for the great contribution. As a (somewhat) newbie AA user, you got me "up and running" in a proportionally excellerated time through your most splendid tutorials. Whip up some new stuff for a tutorial DVD an I will buy.

Hello again. I downloaded the project files, and everything works great except when it gets to the cells turning green. Then my after effects freezes up and closes. Any idea why? I have trapcode and all that and I'm running on CS3. Any help would be spectacular. Thanks!

This is GREAT STUFF!Another thing you could do down the track would be something like:
A guy about to enter the room (camera is facing his back) at the end of a hallway and when he opens the door, an explosion (which would be created in 3D) would emit from in the room, throwing the guy backwards!
Just an idea,

that was a great series. just finished it! out of all of it i will prolly only use fractal noise + cc glass. because i dont have particular or a 3d modeler (or skills at 3d). great looking effect!
