Hey someone please please answer! ITS URGENT!
Whenever I apply particular to any solid no particles show up. The red markers that allow you to move the particle and the menu to the left do show up but as much as I move and tweak the settings no particles show up.
Please someone answer I was really looking forward to use particular but I just cant get it to show up.

Just seen 'The Social Network' and couldn't help but think that they used this effect for the early Harvard scenes - check it out, I know they used AE for most of their finishing ...

is there a special plug in needed for the trapcode effect for the particular effect? I have CS5 and trapcode was not an option...

I'd like to say thanks for this, but I need help on one thing first, when I make a new layer and go to effect and down to trapcode, my AE doesn't have trapcode as one of the options

Wow Andrew!!! Of all the other tutorials i've seen on the internet yours are the most entertaining and easy to follow, it actually makes it fun to work with after effects even if it takes long to render some projects, but anyways thanks for posting these free tutorials and i hope you keep making more to in the future!!!

Great tutorial, I learned a lot. But there's one problem... The plug-in "Particular" (even the whole Trapcode menu in effects) aren't in After Effects CS4. I googled Particular, and it is now being published by Red Gian Software (not Adobe)... So now you have to buy it to use the effect :S
If you're reading this Andrew, you should consider to re-make tutorial with another plug-in. I don't know, maybe one of the other particle effects. Not sure if they can do the same though...

hellow, i had the cs4 of the AE and i cant find the "Trancode" so i cheak in the effects search and i found it (the particular), but when i put it on the solid, it wasn't work, well, it's work but the gray solide was stay so it looked like the effect on gray solid.

I do think however you should do a bit of reading on Canada. I have been kind enough to include a little 'warm' information for you.
On the east and west coast, average high temperatures are generally in the low 20s °C (70s °F), while between the coasts the average summer high temperature ranges from 25 to 30 °C (75 to 85 °F) with occasional extreme heat in some interior locations exceeding 40 °C (104 °F)

I love all of your tutorials and find them very usefull. But I've seen something wrong in this one. When your friend is breathing downward the smoke is still going upward but in real life it would been spitted down then would go up and I was asking myself if it was possible to do this with after effect

It never ceases to amaze me how I can see an effect is a big budget movie that is somewhat unconvincing, then come here and watch andrew create the same effect in 5 minutes that is utterly convincing and real-looking. Kudos as always.
But seriously, check out fake breath in the next movie you see. Or better yet pay attention to car scenes done with greenscreen in most primetime tv shows and then compare them to andrew's tutorial for the same effect. There's no comparison. Andrew's looks much more real. Once again, I can't believe he does so many of these tutorials for free. This site is required reading for anyone working with AE for visual effects.

Andrew, amazing torial, hey guys, could anyone please help me out with a problem I have. I'm from the UK and can't get the Tilde key to work, I press ~ and nothing happens. I mean I if you press the botton by itself you get # so I reid pressing shift then the key to see if that would work but nothing. any help would be much appreciaed. thanks again

I see that you are using your M2, the edges are soft and the colors look to be separating. either you are using a macro zoom lens, or you need to play with the spacing between the achromatic and the unit. Or I it could be compression.

Andrew, again I don't know how many times I can say Thank You for all the help! One quick question (suggestion?) -Any idea how to simulate the Silent Hill movie effect when the "Darkness" comes? Peeling paint that fades up, etc. I thought maybe using Shatter but that doesn't cover a moving background plate. I'm at wits end, any ideas ?

way too go! as you wrote before some place, this can also be used on cars to make the motor running and such, and I see other ways aswell, things on fire that is falling, beeing tosset, or such, this effect can add a little more "yeah" to it

Could've used this a few days ago for a smoke shot. Taped smoke instead, indoors
Lucky the neighbours didn't call the fire department when I opened my windows to let the smoke out. Next time I'll use this method. More controle. Great tutorial again.
