How come After Effects doesn't read the flourish files? I noticed that the icon doesn't display the quicktime logo but just a blank script. Please help...

Well, what can I say! firstly I would like to appologise for my ignorance, until today I always thought Adobe AE was like a cheap 'Combustion' or 'Nuke', all I can say here is how wrong I am. I have just got AE CS5, and believe it or not, I did a google search for a muzzle flash and your site came up......you now have a new fan! Once I get the hang of AE I will be treaing myself to some DVDs from you.......My birthday is coming up, I know what I can say to the missus what I would like now hehehe! And the site itself......Beautiful!

Hi? everyone,
The way to get the 3D-like Effect could be realized by this way:
Check the options of the CC Particle World,
Make sure the Motion Blur in the "Rendering" option is on, then the particle will leave a motion track just like the 3d effect.
It is not a real 3D, but Andrew is really smart to get an illusion in this way.

Ya know, I love all of the tutorials on this site. But there are certain ones I wish people would do. For instance in this tutorial you use the animated flourishes. Why not have a tutorial showing how to animate the flourishes. I have yet yo find one tutorial to show me how to create animations like that.

For the 180 degree effect that everyone is asking about... Just go to "layer" create a new "null object" then parent your camera to the null object. Then highlight the null object and push "R" on the keyboard for orientation. Go down to the "Y Rotation" and type the degree to 180 and ancor it by clicking the stopwatch (this should be at the first frame.) then scroll forward to about 1 second and ancor the degree on about 7. then scroll forward to about 2 seconds and ancor the degree on -14. That should work... your welcome.

Didn't show how to create the 3D and make it stay, you showed how to spin it round but not how to keyframe it to make the 3D actually happen, I will never consider spending any more money on your products

For those of you wondering how to animate the rotation, just make a null object at the beginning of the project and parent the camera to it. Then you rotate/mess around with the Null Object, not the camera. Hopes this helps.

Great tutorial. All the tutoriala are great. I'm abiginner in AE and i have a question about the final render. How did you make the 3d layers rotate. I did this from the camera propeties but at the middle of the animation it's making a zoom in(between the two plates) and then zoom out to the final keyframe. And also what is going on with the title how it's not viewable from the backside, because in my project it's viewable but is written backwards. Thanks

I can't believe the people on here going "gimme gimme I want free stuff you shouldn't charge it costs too much". Folks, Andrew and his staff could be charging clients thousands of dollars for these projects and keeping those clients and the profits all to themselves.
Instead VCP is spreading the wealth and helping us all become better AfterEffects artists. For that we should all be greatful.

This is the first thing I have ever done in AE so its good! but I need help when you get to the spot where you inserted the flourish 6, made it classic colour burn, and you rotated and move it into place. How do i get it to rotate? All i can do is slide it around the screen! *crys*

Hey great tutorial. Well I downloaded the Evolution pack, but I can't figure something out. It doesn't show up in After Effects :/ The file is on my desktop right now, and it has all the files in it, but I have tried everything to get it into After Effects itself. Can anyone help?

CAMERA EFFECT WITHOUT ZOOMING:
1.)Pickwhip the camera to the null object.
2.)Don't use Orbit camera tool.
3.)Only use the rotation tool on the null object
4.)Layer> Pre-compose -- apply "time remapping"
for "bullet time" effect.

" I have manage to make my own evolution presets and as i have observed, it is as similar to what your Evolution product is offering. It is just a matter of keying and stroke animation... Correct me if I am wrong.. the export settings for evolution to have its alpha is "Loose less with Alpha." any one can create his/her own evolution. it is just a matter of hardwork and some imagination of creativity... I still give Andrew the credit for making evolution.. Its a great product for people who are too lazy to make their own presets... Peace!

Actually I just figured it out. If anyone was having the same problem as me try this method. Make a Null object, placing it's anchor point in the center. Make it a 3D layer and parent it to all the objects you wish to be moved. Then go into Transform, create a stopwatch for Orientation and keyframe as you see fit. I like this program

I've learned a great deal in the short time I've used After Effects thanks to your tutorials. I make a point to watch at the very least 1-2 a day and mimic the lessons. Hopefully with you're help I will be able to ween myself off the tutorials and work on my own. That being said I do I have one piece of criticism. You didn't show us how you made the logo spin around. I would be grateful if you or someone else would give me the steps necessary to achieve that. Thanks in advance!

For anyone having trouble animating the design: To animate it all you have to do is create a null object, turn it into a 3D layer. Then link the camera to the null object, then animate the null object's y rotation. Hope this helps. - Eric Sheffey

For anyone having the camera problem... Try NOT to animate the camera but animate the layer positions... So animate the objects instead of the camera... Worked for me ^^

I have a little prob. When I import a texture from the Evolution disk it loads every texture from 1-35 in the same jpg file :S so when i RAM preview it all the 1-35 textures is loop played at the screen:S whats my prob?

To Pippo90: Look from the top view. First camera-position keyframe looking at the front, second keyframe looking at the side (90 degrees), last keyframe looking at the back. The camera motion path now forms a half circle. The difficulty is getting a perfect half circle. I myself precomposed all the layers that form the Title plate object (made the Particles also a 3D layer) and let it rotate around its center. Andrew Kramer himself points to his advanced camera tutorial for a solution to the problem. So there are many ways to attain a smooth Title Plate rotation. I hope this helps...

About difficulties with the camera movement: Link the point of interest of the camera to the position of the glow layer (for example) with a pick whip expression. Then let the camera move around the object.

Bryan Long... If you REALLY want to learn, you will follow along with the tutorial and make your own project files rather than ask for them all setup and ready to go without you lifting a finger...that is if you really want to learn After Effects.

really nice, You should create some more tutorials dealing with text, mainly that can be used for intros, or commercials, I've followed many and purchased riot gear, the sounds, and evolution, but I'm having trouble creating good effects going from one text flyby, to another to create a 30 second commercial. >-(

Not sure if anyone is watching Miss America, but on the bottom left corner they are using title plates that look somewhat similar to what Andrew just did in the tutorial...lol... I've never really noticed them before this tutorial.

Okey! I managed to solve the above problem. I did it by adding a NULL object and parenting the camera with the NULL object. With the NULL object I could pivot around my created 3D comp. and add camera movements without zooming in or out. When I tried without the NULL object, just by the camera, it always zoomed in and then back out again.
My question, to anyone who could answer this, is: Why didn't it work just like that with the camera?
I hope someone could tell me the answer. I went to bed pretty late fighting to get this right! Managed at 2 a clock midnight (HOLLAND).

Thanks Andrew! I feel like I have a part time intern job and I get to look over your shoulder and watch you work! Thanks for all the tutorials. I bought the 8 pack of your dvds (all your products) and love them. there is so much information I've only gone through half of the discs.

Even more value from Evolution! I Love the Kalidescope effect. It makes cool patterns but also would be fun to animate.

Your style of humor is so funny to me. I laughed right out loud when you were talking about drawing your own rounded rectangle mask and the other people with me just looked at me because they didn't get it and I ended up feeling really stupid. Thanks a lot!
