87 RESPONSES TO "ELEGANT SLIDESHOWS"

by Matthew 03/09/2010
Hey,
Nice tutorial. I was wondering how you would tweak the process to do quick time lapse sequences from still images.
Thanks
by squantrill 02/12/2010
It scares me how fast you can work when you repeat the actions at the end. lol. Nice!!
by Damien 02/10/2010
Since this tutorial is a bit old, Photoshop has changed a bit. If you are batch processing images, you may find more success going to "File -> Scripts -> Image Processor".

Follow all the same steps outlined by Andrew, except makes sure to check "Save as JPEG", "Resize to Fit" and put "800" in the W box and "600" in the H box. Hit "Run" and it will process your images just like Andrew's action used to under old Photoshop versions.

Hope this helps!

by NoleDawg 01/26/2009
voices, when you have triple digit files that are numbered and you want then to stay in order, all your numbers need to be triple digits.

i.e., if you top number is 140, then number 1 needs to be listed as 001. Number 10 needs to be 010.

Your computer sees 1, then 10, then 100, etc. If you make all numbers three digits, it will count 001, 002, 003, etc.
by Kevin Boyd 01/11/2009
Using Photoshop CS3 when I run the automated resize script it pauses after each image to ask what compression I want the .JPGs to have.

How do I automate that?

Kevin
by voices 12/22/2008
Great tutorial!

Just one question
I have about 140 pictures that i have in numerical order that need to be in that order for the film. When i drag them into AE they are put into alphabetical order with numbers like 1,10,100,101,110,111,112 etc. How do i get those to be in true numerical order 1,2,3,4?

Thanks

by Allen Ellis 03/08/2008
Hey guys, here's a tip for resizing those photos. You can skip Photoshop all together. Just download a program called "Windows XP Powertoys Image Rezsizer". Look for it on Google. It's made by Microsoft, and after installing you can right-click any photo (or a bunch of photos) and choose "Resize". Type in your dimensions, and it constrains all photos to that size (doesn't squish them). It will even save the copies to a new folder so that you don't loose your originals. Pretty nifty.
by Mona 02/28/2008
Boy do I wish I had seen this tutorial before having to create a slideshow for work. Well, I've got it for next time!
by Matt Faulkenberg 02/28/2008
Great tutorial! I only had one minor complaint and that was when a wide picture comes after a tall picture you can see the wide picture come in before the tall one fades out. I ended up fixing it by adding a 10 frame fade-in for ALL pictures. Thank You!

i just want to be like you when i grow up.
by Robbie 11/18/2007
Hey Andrew first off your site is fantastic... I can't even start to tell you what I have learned from it. So thanks... Question; as in Melanie post on 11/9/07... I did a soccer montage for a 15 minute video I am doing for my daughters team there is about 150 pictures that I am using in your "Elegant Slideshow" I to have to save for the quality after each pic is changed in size, however it was not explained in you tutorial. I don't know that much about using Photoshop yet, but could we include those steps in the action that we create?

thanks for your great work, time and effort...

Robbie
by Pat 11/12/2007
Dude you are sick! Unbelievable... you even operate in fast forward mode.
by Melanie 11/09/2007
1 problem with tutorial. The .jpg save window comes up for each picture when you run a batch. In the tutorial you do not tell how to automate it so I have to tell it the save quality for each photo in the photoshop batch. I'm sure there is a way around it, you just do not describe it in your tutorial. Besides that ......FANTASTIC tutorial. I will recomend this site to others.
Thanks
Melanie

This tutorial is a display of professionalism. It has it all, a commercial for a great product I bought 2 of, an ultra fast demonstration, and you say "I'm going to hit you on the keyboard" a lot and you also tell me to hit me on the keyboard too... i think...

by Creative 10/06/2007
hi,
If you automate resize jpeg's in photoshop. There will be every time when it is ready and will save a JPEG options toolbar is shown. Can I turn this off?
by Danny Boy 09/30/2007
As usual, cool stuff. Thnx.

One major concern, how do you overcome the slight, scanty jerkiness when working w still in 30f NTSC?

Again, I do thank you for this tut and all the rest. Keep it up, man.
