Jatin,
When given options during the save process, select "Optimized" and "Max quality".
Do not choose progressive. This ensures the best quality image and highest compatibility with programs ;D

Use VLC player (If your video player doesn't have the following option)

SLow your play rate down. W' VLC you can do this using the {} to speed up or slow down your playback speed.
I personally need to run most tuts at 1.6x speed, which is right under psycho-chipmunk voice speed.

If you need to repeat something, its easy to drag the slider back a few seconds, and adjust speed as needed.

Hey I'm having a problem. Every time I go through the steps and try to sequence the layers nothing happens. I even tried it by dragging the images on to the composition button and doing it that way but it still didn't work. The layers are still taking up the whole time frame and not overlapping can someone please help?
Antonio

i do everything exactly like you (except the photoshop part, i edited the pictures in lightroom, i didnt want to crop) and the pictures keep importing with a weird color saturation. idk if this has to do with the prophoto rgb setting i exported them with, or if theres a setting that i'm looking at in after effects. also same thing happens in premiere pro cs5 and i'd much rather do the slide show in premiere if you can help me on that one too.

thank you

Hah, continuity error.

At 3:24, There's a folder called '720x480'
At 3:50, It's gone.

I realize this is because you would have
1. Recorded a few times
2. Practiced the tutorial beforehand
3. And deleted the folder because it's not supposed to be there.

I can totally relate to what you say. It's ridiculous how much they make us pay for this kind of training, when the best training we can find online for free. You just have to be curious and eager to learn. It's a thousand times better!!

Well, that depends. Mostly of people wants to learn simple things on his favorite application, but don't have any idea about the basics of digital video. In the other side, if you want to go pro, is really helpfull to have a programatic learning curve (like an editing class).

Since this tutorial is a bit old, Photoshop has changed a bit. If you are batch processing images, you may find more success going to "File -> Scripts -> Image Processor".

Follow all the same steps outlined by Andrew, except makes sure to check "Save as JPEG", "Resize to Fit" and put "800" in the W box and "600" in the H box. Hit "Run" and it will process your images just like Andrew's action used to under old Photoshop versions.

Hope this helps!

voices, when you have triple digit files that are numbered and you want then to stay in order, all your numbers need to be triple digits.

i.e., if you top number is 140, then number 1 needs to be listed as 001. Number 10 needs to be 010.

Your computer sees 1, then 10, then 100, etc. If you make all numbers three digits, it will count 001, 002, 003, etc.

How do I automate that?

Great tutorial!

Just one question
I have about 140 pictures that i have in numerical order that need to be in that order for the film. When i drag them into AE they are put into alphabetical order with numbers like 1,10,100,101,110,111,112 etc. How do i get those to be in true numerical order 1,2,3,4?

Thanks

Hey guys, here's a tip for resizing those photos. You can skip Photoshop all together. Just download a program called "Windows XP Powertoys Image Rezsizer". Look for it on Google. It's made by Microsoft, and after installing you can right-click any photo (or a bunch of photos) and choose "Resize". Type in your dimensions, and it constrains all photos to that size (doesn't squish them). It will even save the copies to a new folder so that you don't loose your originals. Pretty nifty.

Hey Andrew first off your site is fantastic... I can't even start to tell you what I have learned from it. So thanks... Question; as in Melanie post on 11/9/07... I did a soccer montage for a 15 minute video I am doing for my daughters team there is about 150 pictures that I am using in your "Elegant Slideshow" I to have to save for the quality after each pic is changed in size, however it was not explained in you tutorial. I don't know that much about using Photoshop yet, but could we include those steps in the action that we create?

thanks for your great work, time and effort...

1 problem with tutorial. The .jpg save window comes up for each picture when you run a batch. In the tutorial you do not tell how to automate it so I have to tell it the save quality for each photo in the photoshop batch. I'm sure there is a way around it, you just do not describe it in your tutorial. Besides that ......FANTASTIC tutorial. I will recomend this site to others.
Thanks
