Here's a weird bug. I'm using AE CS5 on windows 7. The rotation expression works fine as long as I keep the multiplier lower than 50, as in:
time*50;
With a higher multiplier, the object stops rotating after a couple of minutes. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround to speed up the animation? Thanks in advance.

I wanted to ask why when I input the "CC Force motion blur" inside the audio spectrum on the last effect layer, my audio spectrum vanishes and no effect was generated.
im using CS5... is it because of the CS5 version?

It's Funny Because I just got AE and i had absolutely had no idea what I was going with this and i didn't even watch this tutorial. When I saw the advance spin fx,i just thought it was very pretty, so i was hey I'll just use it since free. Then when i started working on, i had no clue what i was doing at all. I was literally all over the place. But then i accident place one of the blocks on a primary spin out and i didn't know how to take it off so i just left it there, and when i did the ram preview it became a totally different this and i was like Whoa! CC Force Motion Blur doesn't seem to work on my after effects cs5, I turned on motion blur for both the composition and the layer but it doesn't work. I ended up using vector blur and manually forcing motion blur but didn't get the same result.

As I am taking a college class learning about Adobe After Effects, learning about all the options in the effects of different types of layers is quite a process of knowing what does what, and what options are easier from what are complicated, but this tutorial might come in handy for when I will be doing waveform for whatever.

There's a stealth cut at the 12:30-31 mark where he un-solos the dots layer and suddenly there's a 2nd line layer that's above the Dots layer that was not there previously. It's actually a pretty important step since you need a layer above the Dots layer in order to change the TrkMat to luma matte. Just thought I'd mention this since it threw me off for a minute.

Amazing tutorial! but when i apply the cc radioal blur, there is a square created where the edge of the effect ends. so it looks wrong because the radial blur is cut. Someone knows how fix it?

When I apply the motion blur, the lines disappear. It won't come back unless I uncheck the shutter angle- but then the effect doesn't work. I did something wrong.

I like how you point out that if you'd do this tutorial again, it would look completely different. I feel a lot of other tutorials I've seen people are reading from a script, and you are able to do it pretty free form. It's nice to see when you change your mind midway through rather than just plugging in predetermined numbers.

Hey guys! Just discovered a quick little thing, when making the rotating lines, instead of modifying the expression to offset the spinning, there's an option in the effect called "Random Phase"
You just have to tick that

I just quickly went through the tutorial again. That moment seems to happen somewhere past the 27th minute

Excellent tutorial and really inspiring to get you into it very quickly too. I am currently producing dance and down tempo electronica and this will really help to put a commercial finish to transitions for our music vids. Looking forward to going through more. Any thoughts of an intro for our current track Winter Sun? I have normal outdoor footage that I can colour grade to an almost B&W;but slightly seppia tone. Does it take a lot of time to render in Quicktime? I usually render it in WMV , because it renders quickly and and file is like 1-10 mb if the video is shorter than 5 mins

Hey guys at 123:12 when he duplicates the "lines" layer when i scale down the new duplicated lines it gets rid of my original one so i can no longer see it! Any ideas why or how to fix it?

So I was screwing around with this animation, and I wondered if it would be possible to make the actual shape of the spinning lights into more of a rectangle than a circle. I figured it would be nearly impossible to do since polar coordinates only turns things into circles, but I was wondering if anyone else might be able to find a way to do this. Thanks.

Wow, Andrew! There's a lot of stuff in this one that helped me better understand how to structure my comps AND how After Effects handles things!
When I first saw the final comp I was sure there were lights in there. It's amazing how effective fast blur and glow can be when coupled with a lens flare.

Just to say thanks for making a tutorial that does not require 3rd party plug-ins. Nothing against element 3D or anything its just nice to be able to take part with what I have at the moment.
One day I will be able to buy trapcode, cameratracker, optical flares, 3D Max... etc. Eventually one day I will have all of those effects and be able to follow along

Great tutorial Mr. Kramer. I have been trying to build a sci-fi style spinning generator device in AE and was about ready to give up and compromise by using footage of the spinning internals of MRI and CAT scanners. Now I have seen this tutorial one of my first thoughts was "Doh, why didn't I think of that". One of the "problems" I have with AE is the sheer number of plugins and effects and their combinations that you can use to produce something unexpected, it can be very overwhelming. I think that this is just down to the fact that I have done nowhere near enough experimentation, and I'm sure that I have yet to discover 90% of the potential of this great software. You make this voyage of discovery a lot easier with your tutorials, not just in their specific content, but in the techniques you demonstrate. Keep up the good work good sir. +1

to adjust this further change the time script from -150 to say -80 and so one for each layer. this will achieve a slight variation to each spin to not have them all have the same beginning spin.
