Hi!
I'm shooting a scene where the person is on a bicycle and coming towards the camera when they get hit by a car.
How would I go about this i.e. where would I place the green-screen?
And what angle lens did you guys use in the tutorial?
I think the frame is perfect for concealing the car until it hits the person.

Hey, I was wondering if the techniques shown in this tutorial could also be used in a way to duplicate the amount of people in your shot. If not is there another tutorial for that?

Is there any way to add "Annotations" or messages to a video that you already made? When you say rotoscoping, your going by with a masking tool through each frame... In CS5 you can use a rotoscoping tool, just so people don't get confused, if it is possible.

I like watching your tutorials since it helps to expand on what I've learned in school plus new things they never taught us! Now I don't feel so bad for when last year I used color key in premier about 5 times per layer to get the optimal green screen quality. My classmates and teachers even wondered how my green screen shots were placed so well in the composition scene. Good to know tricks Ive figured out on my own are used by the pros. Even better to know there's people like you to help us become even better students and professionals. Shows i must be heading in the right direction!

The most important thing you've done teaching us with this tutorial is the way to "get rid" of the green background so we could use the part of the footage that we want and composite it apart.

SERIOUSLY I love your training Videos very nicely done I just started after effects it was hard to learn it at first but after watching your videos I started to get the hang of it and now I Think I'm making progress by using the video of my boss being hit by a truck in a loop. so we can watch it over and over again in our office sure wish we can use after effects in real life

Again, great tutorial/tutorials, I watch them religiously! One question, I followed your green screen tips to the letter and then tried experimenting, every time I use Keylight, my blacks and sometimes whites get REALLY noisy. Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks.

Hi Andrew, I happened to have tumbled on your website and found it very interesting especially as i am trying to venture into graphics designing and stuff with Adobe After Effects being my main focus. I have tried to watch your tutorials but i can't because they don't play. I have flash player installed on my pc. Is there any other software i need to install to be able to view your great tutorials? Atleast from comments posted i can imagine how great the tutorials are. Please do let me know what i can do.

couldnt u avoid masking legs by making the green screen longer in such way thats the "victim" will walk on it then key it up !??

I watched the link and when I played it second by second, and saw that right before the impact, you can see a ghosting of the women. My guess is that they combined 2 different videos and while one of them was the actual actress acting like she was about to get crashed, the other video contained a truck hitting a dummy with the women's clothes and then another car hitting the dummy once again.

This is almost as good as the way that i do it...I use the stand in the middle of the road and wait for a car technique. It looks great but can only be done once, so you need to hope the camera man has hit the record button. Seriously though, amazing, really really amazing

Very Nice Andrew.
The tutorial content itself was practically useless as far as my productions go, but the techniques that you covered apply to hundreds of VFX problems I encounter daily.

Sean you can buy this to a party store, (a green plactic table cloth) they sell it as a roll very pratical and cheap about 10 buks for a 100feet.

Ok i'm 11:30 into this tut & the first thing that strikes me is: why hold your green landscape? If it was potrait (a longer screen in the Y axais) surely you'd eliminate the need to roto sams legs?

You could probably shoot the green-screen on the tripod, but then go hand-held for the shot with the girl and the car. Just motion track everything as per the set extension, yes?

@Nathan Chapman: try to refresh the page a few times and see if that "forces" it to operate properly. Otherwise, try flushing your cache and give it another crack. It happens to me a fair bit, so thats my work around. Good luck!

Andrew, I've probably watched 20 of your tutorials and this is my first LONG OVERDUE comment, but I've learned almost everything I know from your turorials. This one will be great to know for the future. Excellent work, keep it up.
BTW, would you consider doing a tutorial about a lightsaber being stabbed into the ground and walls? The melting magma like stuff is a little difficult for me to do, mine looks decent, but I know that you could make it incredible.

Firefox 2.0.0.14, Windows XP, says "Movie Not Loaded" when I right-clicked on it after waiting around 10 mins. Just dsplays a white box where the tutorial should be.

Fantastic tutorial! But, it's got me creeped out a bit. I was just doing a video job for a client about public safety, and it involved actual video footage of a person being hit by a fast moving train. Terribly tragic and surreal! I'm just really glad Sam wasn't actually hurt in the process. Let's face it he's what gives these videos polish.

Awesome Tutorial! The funny thing is, i did such a video for myself , but i didn't use the Green Screen, but rotoscoped the actor frame by frame. That's hard work and so your solution is very cool! Also the Camera moves during my shot to the right and so I used a puppet, that falls off the car. Ubnfortunately the shot is for a movie, so I can't show it right now. I have a project of a short film, and for one of the scenes I'm wanting to create a bullet time effect similar to the one used in The Matrix. The idea is to have a car approach at high speed, and just when it's up close, have the time stop and move the camera to the other side of the road. I was hoping you could teach us how to do that with 3 video cameras filming at the same time, two on each side and one in front, just high enough for the car to drive below it. I know in The Matrix they used about half a million cameras to get that effect, but I only have access to 3... If anyone can pull off something like that, it's you Andrew.

There was a scene with Brad Pitt on "Meet Joe Black" where he was practically ping-ponged between two passing cars, that was ridiculously idiotic.
This tutorial however, is scary realistic. My back hurts as I watch poor Sam's spine smashes over the hood of the car.
