XD Clicked on 3DS Max tutorial, I'm like "Oh I don't have 3DS Max downloaded." Go to Autodesk.com, MY SUBSCRIPTION HAS EXPIRED. "Crud," I think. Then, I realize I have C4D. I go to open it, guess what: SUBSCRIPTION EXPIRED. My head drops, then realize After Effects has C4D R14. And so here I am.

According to me, all the 3D Softwares are the same but the interface is different only. Its just the matter of understanding the softwares if you are smart enough

There are some differences, some say 3ds max is better, but C4D is more easier and user friendly... they are both powerful programs, and deliver same power depending on the user's creativity and skills 
I recommend C4D for beginners, get 3Ds MAX if you can learn the complexity way fast

To Paul. I saw in another turtorial on AE,he used for Trapcode Particular, PNG format 3D picture of a ball made on a 3D program and paricular started emitting that ball. Also a light named Emitter and many other stuff. I dont use that kind of 3D models with particular yet, but some other cool stuff its rly nice

andrew, i only started using ae about 3 months ago, and thanks to this site, my ftv teacher has told me im better then some of the students she teaches at uni, so thaanks maate 
but just a heads up u can apply textures on there layer, you dont have to drag it onto the item every time haha

Hopefully you get the idea or someone can explain it better, but simply put, just go to your "Render Settings" in C4D (CMD B on a Mac) and goto save and you will see under "Composting Project File" you can export your project in .aec format for After Effects.

Nice C4D tutorial. I always wondered if theres a special technique for that seamless backgorund, now i see you also used the plane object and bending modifier to make it. Thanks heaps.

Your tutorial is hilarious especially your "as you can see I don't know what I am doing" comment ! haha! I am proficient with After effects and the adobe CS, and am starting to learn C4D. I found the program annoying in many ways, especially with its nomenclature to things (eg. the extrude amount they call it "movement", or rendering a track matte they call it "object buffer. argh! It is like learning a new language), but maybe the 3d world is like that....? (I have no experience with 3d before C4D)
Anyways, I enjoy your tutorial as well as all the other afx tutorials as well. Great job! Thanks a bunch Andrew!

hi, you can drag the texture in to the text name its just the arrow has to be facing left, if you want me to i can post a video on youtube showing how to do 3d renders and even 3d fractals.

Instead of dropping the bend onto the plane. Make a plane object, bend, and a null. drop both plane and bend into the null. Now you have more control over the position or rotation, if you choose to move the plane and bend.

Nice tutorial. C4D is great for stuff like this. Btw you CAN drop the material on the objects list. I don't know if anyone else commented on that or not but I'm too lazy to check...

Ok, "tw" Use the explode modifyer, if you don't know how to use it, watch this quick tutorial I made on the explode modifier. The video and audio quality are low, but I just work with what is very cheap and FREE! ; ) as do most blender users I am sure I am trying to find someplace to put my videos for the quality to be better, but you can easily follow along in low quality.

Andrew, I love all your tutorials and I am GRATEFUL that they're free...no complaints here. I have C4D, 3DMAX, MAYA and Houdini...modeling is modeling...most professional 3D apps have great modeling tools...in the end it all boils down to these things: creativity, 'render patience', shaders, materials and lighting...Mainly materials and lighting.
Andrew continue with the great work...you've helped me to become a better filmmaker and VFX artist and I am grateful!

Andrew, I want to know how do you preview you composites without rendering first.
I will try to explain me better. I have realice my compo in AE. I move with my mouse the time line cursor but it doesnt show me how motion is. It just jump from the start frame to the last one where i get my click out.

Just started using Cinema 4D in the past 3 months. I have the text thing pretty well, i do have a question, What if I wanted to break the letters apart into individual letters and work with them as their own objects? How do i do this after creating a text object like the tutorial above.

I never used Cinema 4D, I prefer 3D Studio Max, well there’s a reason, I started usind 3D Software from Max3, so Im not gonna change it for a new 3D software... Thanks a lot dude... keep 3D Studio MAX running...

finally, you've covered a Cinema 4D tutorial which is very helpful since Im starting to learn this product. I would say that i've already covered the basics stuff in C4D R10. Ive been wanting to learn how to integrate After Effects and C4D. The very popular scenario would be creating an electronic billboard in C4D and then importing this in After effects and placing the video in 'electronic billboard'. Could you show us on how to do this? This would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

guess what, i have max, maya and c4d, but atm im finding maya with the easiest workflow, which is creepy, cuz last time i tried maya, it was fricken hard! i would like to change all my apps hotkeys to the maya hotkeys tho

Grat Tut! mayamaya??? MAYAMAYA!!! *g* I used to use 3dsmax when i started out in 3d too. I tried cinema4D, but never got the hang of it. As u say: Quarky Interface I then decided to change to maya Better solution than to change to C4d, at least to me. But ur right: *most* of the last two tuts really transfer to maya (and most other 3d appz), except u have to do deeper into lighting with maya and use mentalRay to get softshadows and ambient occlusion, but thats no big deal. thanx for the tuts, they are a great starting point for the 3d beginners around here. keep up the good work!P.S.: 3d-copilot.net...? ever thought ´bout that? no? maybe you should... 3d-copilot.net... would be great to see that one online... Just have to get rid of yer private life, think about it ;-D

I think the new 3D Tutorials are very interesting, but I wish we could stick to After Effects, as I don't have that software. I still think the tutorials are awesome, but you are still going to do After Effects, right?

the last effect isn't on my version of cinema 4d, I think it was "ambient" I have version 9, is it a plug-in or is it on version 10!!!

This was rather handy bro. I already commented on that, but I worked with the tut last night and partly today and came out with some cool stuff. Played around with more lighting, and I am actually getting more interested in using the app again now.

well Andrew if u use after effects there's only one AFX but if u step inside 3D there are maany options so everybody's gonna ask you to guide in the one is used to work, cause you r the pro in this who else we gonna ask to teach more?

Hey Good stuff as usual. Just a comment to all on the application side. Don't get caught up on what app is better. What I think so great about AK style of tuts is even though it using a specific application of choice it all about the technique. When it comes down to it you can render out a animation in passes using whatever tool and then tweak it later in Photoshop or After effects, Shake or Motion, etc(even ms word lol jk). That the proper and fastest way to work.

I know how to do it (render out of 3D program with akpha channel so you have a perfect matte) but it's not a hard thing to explain but makes life a lot easier for people. It's me again. Just wanted to say thanks again for the Tut. I followed the one for 3DS Max and it was great, as also this one. I use both 3D apps. and I really like what your doing. Even if I was just using Maya, it wouldn't matter. Your teaching techniques that will help people across the board no matter what 3D program they are using. Andrew you read my mind...I saw the 3d studio max tut. a couple hours ago....but as a mac user I have no way of taking advantage of this landmark jump into 3d. Not wanting to be left behind I started looking for an alternative....Cinema 4d was the best option I could find for me, it's user friendly Mac and PC and produces great results. I know it will be twice the work...but could you continue the trend of teaching both. I am amazed by your vast knowledge, skill and creativity and I am honored to be one of your students.

Sick...... i'm not begging, but to me it seems 3DS is easier to use or maybe you just make it seem more simple cuz your a pro...........well whatev either way, sick tut, looking forward to more.
