I have a question - I was wondering if there is ever a downfall to working in 32bpc? Everything that can be done in 8bpc can be done in 32bpc, but you have a ton more possibilities in 32bpc... I feel like I'm missing something here and that AE should just default to 32bpc.

Well thanks for the tutorial but i have a problem when i try to make the sparks.. when i click options and choose rendering and check motion blur nothing happens.. :( there is no motion blur i use after effects 7.0professional and it doesn't work and i don't know why ;( i have the same problem with fancy title plate again no motion blur on the particles please Andrew help me write me an E-mail if you have some free minutes. Thanks in advance.

And for those who cant find the CC Particle World (i know that andrew has said this alot), but just take the installation disc and whup them right up . It follows along in the box with AE and both version 7 and CS3 have them. (Probably the earlier versions too, atleast 6.5)

Yes there is, increased render times and lack of support for a wide array of plug-ins. Note that the plug-in that Andrew uses for the particles is not 32bpc aware. You can work around these issues by pushing values into overbrights using a 32bpc capable effect like levels or exposure but you're not really expanding the range of values produced by the effect... just pushing it above white. This technique will not work for every 8bpc/16bpc effect.

However, I would say that 32bpc is essential for serious color grading, film work, 3D renders and achieving naturalistic light effects (in combination with linear blending).

Make it shorter! ;)

It has to be just a setting right?

When I downloaded the Project File, it says that the file was made in After Effects 8.0, and I am running 7.0. I also tried to follow the tutorial and there were things in there not in my version, so I could not follow. Please help!

Hey, can anyone tell me why I change the bpc value on my comp? It stays at 8 no matter what I do :( And there is a way to fix that?

Sorry to be a noob but can anybody tell me how to export a file with 32 bit color as say a quicktime and still retain your ultra-bright colors. Whenever I export a project like the one above all I get is ultra-bright greys...which just look like normal greys... Any help would be awesome.

Because I'm here to discuss some technical issue!

I've noticed that you hide some tricks in this tutorial. I mean the result is shown in the preview of "here's what we're going to be creating" but not shown in the tutorial.
I think the reason may be lack of time since it's a short-cuts or u just leave it for us to explore and experiment!

the little tricks are turning on carema's Depth of Field to make the scene realistic and blurring the text a bit to give it a yellow glow.

BUT there're BIG tricks.

For example you make letter "e" in the word ".net"
so close to the camera and just in the middle of the frame when it passes by,
(shown here: http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm170/kevin1649/910aaaac.jpg it's under 20KB)
and "e" is relatively bigger than "t"(in "copilot") or "." which really brightens the scene and make it so sharp.
Also when this "e" comes to its final position, it's NOT in the center of the frame. in fact it has quite a bit offset.
Through experimenting I find that changing the camera's position and rotation a little will achieve this.It's so slight that we can't even notice but it makes the characters' moving path totally different.
Also the character is rotating around x, not y or z which are shown in the tutorial. so another animator has to be added to move up the anchor point.
BUT that's not enough! Setting the offset z position to be twice the distance between camera and the text's final position can make them stay closer to x-z plane rather than like a line due to rotation.
Also I've animated the z position in range selector from -1000 to -500(camera z position is -480) to make the last few characters getting in a little slower and more elegently.

Still I find my project just doesn't look as sharp as yours, although this is not a complex one.
Is there any other trick I missed?

i have bought more than 3dvds tutorial for after effects from Lynda.com and 1dvds from Total training... i won't mention the host name here...

i keep watch them but they cut out the important parts of the effects how to apply them ... when we miss out the Most IMP part... whatz the use of buying that...

but when watching the Andrew Kramer tutorial... he tought us from the very begining til end without anycuts.. and it was really eaxy to understand...

They called them self they are adobe certified...yea, hey mite be... but they dnt teach nice... teaching is not everyone cup of tea...

I am having a blast with all these tutorials. I just recently purchased the Adobe Prod. Premium Suite and right know I am thanking God for this website. To all the staff at VC, and to Andrew especially, thanks for all the help and advice in getting started. Love the AF training.

Ok! figured it out. if anyone else is having trouble exporting 32bpc. you need to go to your render settings under the render queue. Under that, there should be a pulldown for color depth. change that to 32bpc and you should be good to go!

Shit, got the same problem (render does not show the glow effect of the 32bpc)... Anyone...?

Okay, I got it finished but instead of using motion blur I used fast blur and got a quite nice effect. A problem is when I render it to a DV stream the orange color you got by using 32bpc disappeared when opening it afterwards. So I'm completely clueless for what to do. :/

Ignore my previous post. I have found a solution for the 32bpc problem.
Add the composition to a render que and use a dv preset. Then edit the color from the dv preset to 32bpc. Import to Premiere and go edit! :D

@Jewish: Why complain? You are free to change the bg to whatever coulour/texture you want, and if the effect is not to your liking you can adopt and change to heart's content. Thank you! I had that problem as well and I was trying to troubleshoot my way through it but with no success. I even tried exporting it as an image sequence because Adobe Help said that PSD and TIFF images supported 32 bpc and figured it was worth a try. I probably would have never figured it out because I never use the Render Queue. I just always go, File>Export. So, my thanks to you. Nice job.

its on the disk. just find it its call cycore and extract it into the pluggins folder. good luck!

To get CC Particle world and all other CC effects like CC Sphere, CC Rain, CC Radial Blur etc. Just Download Cycore FX, just google it.
And to reduce the size when you render try using a different file format.

Hey Andrew, Thanks for your hard work. We just finished a big video project put together by the kids in our church (37 kids!). Alright here is a Solution for 32 Bit Exportng Colour Problem


1st dont Export if u want BRIGHT YELLOW COLOUR

go to Render Setting Pael and add all the files that are in the PRoject to the panel then set the Rendering values

Remember to set 32 Bit chanel and in Colour Management set PRERSERVE RGB

then go to Coposition Menu and select PRERENDER show the file location

come back to Render panel and press RENDER BUTTON

here u go with FULL BRIGHT YELLOW COLOURS

However, I have After Effects 7; when I go to the add animation for the position, there isn't an "Enable Per-character 3D" selection in the animate window on the timeline.

So how would I animate each individual character in 3D when the graphic rotates and comes in from in front of the camera/screen?

I've got After Effects 7.0 and it doesn't work :( I'm doing everything just the way you show, but when I change text to 'ramp up' nothing is happening. Also nothing is happening when I'm playing with offset %. Text is still the same.

Was a good tutorial apart from the fact i dident have the options you did when you got to the Sparks.

I saved what i had but its 176mb for like 5 seconds or something :S how do you save so it will be a small size, or how could you change to a gif....to put on a website.

But I have a problem with my program after effects cs3. When I create a text layer, my anchor point is very far, not in the center of my layer. I'm oblige to replace the anchor point all the time, and I loose a lot of time.

I watched the tutorial, It was very good. But the problem is am unable to get the motion blur for the particles even after turning it ON in Options of CC Particles World. Am unable to view blur for particles both in preview and rendered output. Though Motion blur works well in Text Layer. I have AE CS3. Plz help me out.

Hi there! I tried this tutorial (first time after effects), and it works like a charm! But: the particales give a strange blue beamy cross over my entire movie. I can give you a printscreen if needed. The cross comes from the particales, because when I hide that layer, the cross dissapears. Any help?

worked a treat as anyone who was having a problem with the lack of colours were not using the render queue, they, like me were using the
"file > export:" quick option.

Great, how do you get the CC particle world?

Ok for those of you who are having the rending/exporting issue where your text keeps coming out pure white, the way to fix it is on the top menu click on:

-Edit
-Templates
-Render Settings

Then under the settings section click on

-Edit

Locate where it says (Color Depth) and then make sure in the drop down menu that you have

-32 Bits Per Channel

Selected.

Now what you want to do next is make sure your composition is selected along with the work area you have displayed. Now on the top menu again click on:

-Composition
-Add To Render Queue

From there you'll notice the render tab is available on the bottom where your work area is located. Just click on:

-Render

and then you should be set. Now for people who notice what happens next is that AE will create a full rendered video of your text with all the colors however the output display is in the .AVI extension and the problem with that is you run into a major data file (Mine was over 80mb for just a little over 3 seconds!!!!) That's too big! What you can do from there is just take that .AVI file and put it back into AE. Then create a new composition using that .AVI file and then from there you can use your regular (Export) settings however you want to compress it into a smaller file and more compact file extension; I like using Quicktime but you can do whatever you normally use.

That should clear EVERYTHING up... If you are still experiencing problems. Email me at:

The problem is that when I render the final proyect and then I look at the results the sparkles are gone and insted they are white, I already checked the fast blur and yes its turned on so I dont know what to do. Can you help me out?
