Hey Nick, I've been working my way through these tutorials. Better late than never I guess. Anyway, I believe the answer you're looking for is in the Source Image layer. Open the dropdown and select the Material Options. Select "Accepts Lights" and toggle it to off. This should set the layer back to it's original color without affecting the other layers. Of course you may still want to do some color correction to it for a more finished look.

I realize this is a six year response and you probably either have the answer or don't need it any longer. Still, there it is.

I have a question, will it cause problems for the effect to add an expression to the evolution values of the original fractal noise? Will this cause a watery ripple effect or totally mess everything up? I don't have access to my computer right now otherwise I would try it.

During this tutorial, at around 1:38, when you say to turn on the 3D Layer Switch, I don't see the little button or whatever for that, or any of the buttons in that around there. Is there something I could do to fix this?

Hi Andrew, you stated at the start of this tutorial that its not "beginner tutorial," and suggested that to try the first reflections tutorial. Would that be tutorial #17? I'm a very new AE user and very excited to start learning from your tutorials. Thank you so much for offering them!

Andrew

Mate, just like to say thanks from England, yorkshire. Your tutorial helped us a lot. To such, we were in great trouble because we were working for a company in a different field and it went down.

But moment we decided to a learn a new skill, we spotted your website and in a matter of just 4 weeks, we learnt and set up our business, and got our first contracts from four broadcast companies.

What we did, they thought we were doing it for years. It also got us to help other people to learn what we just learnt as we know how it feels, when one loses a job.

So Andrew, thank you for sharing what you know. It's helped a whole family of people in our city.

If you change the "Evolution" setting of the fractal noise about 1 rev per minute, (an both the comp and the overlay), you get a nice animated ripple.
