Is Easy Reflect still available and if so is it compatible with cc2016/2017?
Did the reflection plugin replace it and if that's the case is there a trick to keeping the reflection true when turning the image on the y axis?

Sure would be great if 'easy reflection' worked on newer versions like AE CS5 (or am I doing something wrong?). Is there an update to this plug-in planned?

For CS 5.5 users, try rearranging the effects in this order from top to bottom:
Reflect 2
Reflect
Reflect 3
Rotate the Wipe Angle on Reflect 2 to 180 deg.
Reflect 2
Reflect
Reflect 3
Rotate the Wipe Angle on Reflect 2 to 180 deg.

I do exactly like you say, but no matter how many times I redo it, it doesn't reflect like your demo. It is a hard reflection at the bottom and it doesn't fall off like yours does. I'm working in CS4.

Absolutely true, I had a headache because I could not figure out why the preset wasn't working, but after I read some of your comments here; I found that they mixed up folder, I wanted to try the Ae7 but I wasn't sure until I read your comments here. Thanks a bunch for this!

When using this easy reflection preset, I do exactly like you say, but no matter how many times I redo it, it doesn't reflect like your demo. It is a hard reflection at the bottom and it doesn't fall off like yours does. I'm working in CS4.

love the tutorial! For text I've used photoshop to create an image of just text. Bring it into After Effects and this effect works.

The presets are awesome! Only one problem.
I get the dreaded green X on top of the layer I apply the preset to. Specifically, 'easy reflect'. If the presets are free.... why? I don't mind paying for them but why does it act like it a 'trial' version?

CS4 users should use the presets in the AE7 folder. These presets seem to work fine with AE9 while the ones in the CS3 CS4 folder do not.

In the presets folder there are 2 versions one for CS3/CS4 and one for AE7. I found the one for AE7 works on CS4,I think they put them in the wrong folders. (from the forum)

Hmm..fooled around some more to get this working...seems like the order of the effects in this preset need arranging to make it work in CS4. After moving the falloff part of the preset to the top of the fx stack it seemed to work more sensibly.

Something doesn't seem to work right in regards to the linear wipe portion of this preset when using in CS4/Vista 64. The transition completion control in this preset has a scale that does not produce suitable results. At anything more than 1% completion the reflection has far too much opacity falloff. This behaviour is the same if replaceing this portion of the preset with Linear Wipe manually and adjusting it's transition completion value. Again anything higer than 1% generates unusually high amounts of opacity fallof. Sorry, doesn't work for me...

It seems like it's not working on CS3. I get reflection on the bottom of the picture itself, but not on the base ground. I tried different orders, but it's not working. Is there any suggestion?

I have a question about the easy reflect preset. I found that the preset works great for original footage but I got tripped up on pre-composing.
I was applying the easy reflect to a bunch of stills that were all over the place in quality and size, and did not have time to bring them into photoshop. My approach was to use a white solid as a matte in After Effects, so I could have the freedom of adjusting the picture and have them all look the same in a 3d move....but with all the precomposing, it meant I had to make my reflections the old fashion way.
So my question is if there is a way to make a preset like this that will work with precomps as well?

The message you are getting (CC RepeTile and CC Composit) is an indication that you are missing the Cycore FX plugin.
This plugin "Cycore FX" comes bundled with Adobe After Effects CS3 full version only... and not the demo version.
You can Google Cycore FX and download the trial version of this plugin. Be aware that the trial version will render a green "X".
Hope this helps!

Yeah Virio, same here.
I hit okay after it shows that error and it just lowers some of my images footage opacity to 50 percent it's weird.

I am having a problem with the reflective preset. The reflection is being applied to the photo which makes it look like a gradient applied to the photo. Not a reflection like your tutorial.

I got a fine result out of this.

I have searched long hard for some down to earth tutorials on After Effects ... for the past 2 years since finding out what after effects is all about. I do freelance illustrations and design and wanting to do some animation as well as short films thank you guys so much for the renewed creative energy I am now experiencing since coming across your site last nite. I really dont know wether your company subscribes to karma but i belive if u do good unto others good things will happen to u. it works for me... is teaching people how to make stuff in AE and earn money in return for site traffic doing good> i sure as hell hope so. u guys are terrrific role models and i love your business structure.

Nice presets!! I have AE CS3 and when I apply those presets, nothing happens. I play with the order and the settings of the effects and it's done sometings pretty cool...!

Hello, I down loaded your " Easy Reflection presets" for After Effects 7, and placed them in the Preset folder and add a folder names VideoCopilot. I did every thing your tutorial said. This is what happened when I applied your first effect. It says I am missing CC Repetile and CC Composite ( Missing: FX_Reflect & Missing: FX_Reflect 3 ) It does not work for me. I deleted the folder and went ahead and down loaded the files again. Did everything your instructing video said to do for installing but it still is missing the above files. Can you help out. I love this effect and would like to us it on a DVD for my company. I look forward in hearing back from you. Thanks, Steve.

reflection is not working to well in CS3... I changed the stacking order to 2-3-1, but i dont get a fade-out of the reflection. I just mirrors it over the X-axis.

Make sure you have Advanced 3D render activated instead of Standard 3D renderer. (look under composition settings and advanced tab to find it) It solved my problem with some weird stuff happening to the floor where it was shining through parts of the image.

Great Work. It took me a fair amount of frustration to figure this one out! I'm using CS3 and for some reason it wasn't working, until I noticed something... You need to precomp text for it to work! To fix Max's issue:
You need to make a pre-comp for the text you want to reflect and apply the preset to the nest precomp. MAKE SURE that your precomp for the text is AS BIG as the text - meaning do not leave any "empty" space below because the reflection will use the entire comp.
For mine I just typed what I needed then scaled the comp to that size - worked perfectly.
Andrew - Any chance you could give a quick tutorial on how to make the reflection bend on axis?

I hope all is well with you. I installed the new presets for CS3, but when I apply it to my image it separates the reflection from the original image quite a bit to the point where it's unusable. Is their any reason for this? I am possibly doing something wrong? I would love some input on this issue if at all possible, if not then I can always do it the old fashioned way but I just wanted you to know that their is still a glitch on this preset...well at least for me anyhow. Thank you very much for your time and I hope to hear from you soon, thank you again.

Now... I need help with the awesome Reflections Preset...
If i use it on a video or picture it works perfect...
What about text... it just woun't work.. I put it on the text.. precomposed... but.. no reflection!

Hi Ed, You need to install CycoreFX HD (v1.5 etc). I had the same problem. I installed CycoreFx (which ironically i dont use) and that fixed the problem.
P.S. - Im jealous. Im still using AE 7 Pro. Maybe someday i'll be able to afford CS3.

Having problems using the preset. I have installed the preset but when i apply it to the image file within the comp I get an error saying the "This favorite contains 2 references to missing effects. Please install the following effects to restore the references. (CC RepeTile, CC Composite)". I have a trial install of AE CS3 and am witing for the full version to be delivered.

Great preset! Im having a little problem though.
Im having glitches on my footage. I've tried minimizing the problem but i still have a glitch. Look at the middle picture and you'll see it - can anyone tell me what im doing wrong or what the problem is?

For text you may have precompose it and place it at the bottom of the frame. Otherwise you may have to follow the tutorial.

This is my experience with CS3 applying the preset to video footage.
the order of the fx are correct.
the only issue i see, is in the FX_Reflect02 the "Transition Completion" if you drop it to zero, the whole reflection is visible, if you raise the "Transition Completion" from Zero to one, and on up, it will apply the fade to the reflection, but from zero to one, it jumps far to quickly. you can't get good control on the amount of fade.
But wonderful preset. hope my info was helpful.

Just looks like an upside-down solid copy; with or without an effect to the layer. I did however manage to get it to work fine without manipulating the layer order in AE7 Pro. But this version constantly quits on me since it's not compatible with the Intel-MACs.
Andrew is aware of this and is working on it.

Cabbe for After effects CS3 i had the same kind of problem ,after applying the preset effects looks like fx_reflect then 2 and 3 Putting the first one at the end resolve the problem
and the reflexion is ok !!!
So remember
The correct order
FX_Reflect 2
FX_Reflect 3
FX_Reflect

It works fine in my 7.0 version.
But in CS3 version it applies the preset. and i think that maybe it puts the "FX_Reflect" stuff in a wrong stack-order. Cause nothing visibly is happening to the layer. But when i move around the order of the "FX_Reflect" effects i can kinda get it to do a gradient on the image like the above commenter

That looks nice. It reminds me of the cover flow feature in itunes :p
Also, it raised a question. That would look sooooo good if the fog (fractal noise) was 3D. It looks flat in this example. Is it possible to make 3D fog in AE?

I am having a problem with the reflective preset. The reflection is being applied to the photo which makes it look like a gradient applied to the photo. Not a reflection like your tutorial.

It's probably just me but when I apply the preset the video clip fades instead of reflecting. By the way the new site is fantastic.
