What's the Best Way To Animate a Car on a race track?Bezier?

Postby molgat on 12/9/2017, 1:43 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have been tring to animate the position of the car - which is a group null - created with Element 3d.

But, creating the 3D path with bezier key frames is very time consuming.

is there a better way to move the car along the race track - ?

Desperately seracing for an answer for a loong time ☺

Thanks in advance,

Tolga

p.s. here below I attach the pic of the 3d model of the race track

Not necessarily the best way, but this was my method of creating an animation driving along 3D race track:

1) render the track from top view
2) draw the route in Illustrator as a bezier curve
3) copy and paste the route from illustrator to the position of a null in After Effects where it becomes a (2-second) motion path
4) stretch to desired animation length (the time it takes to go once around the track)
5) make a new "master" null and parent null with motion path to this null, scale and rotate into place, then disconnect parent
6) since this results in a flat track, switch to side view and adjust the position of the bezier points along the 3rd dimension (height) axis
7) finally create new in-between points to adjust speed (acceleration, deceleration) along different parts of the track manually

Don't know if this is any different from how you've been doing it, but there you go.
