A suggestion for Spam
So as many of you are aware, the forums does get filled with spam quite often. The issue is, one user can come along, drop as many posts as they like, everywhere.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember a moderator stating last year, that the first 3 posts of a user requires moderation. Until it is approved, the post will not appear to regular users (Unless you are using the mobile site). However, if after the 3 posts, the user is free to post what he wants regardless of if the posts were approved or not. This means a spammer can post 30 posts, which 27 would be perfectly visible.
This has been an issue for a while, but since yesterday, a single user named Hancesini has posted 467 spam messages in the past several hours and is still posting. This has been an extreme case, but there are plenty of times when spammers post around 10-30 posts, which are easily visible.
Now, on other forums I have seen various anti-spam features. One that is really simple however, is that every user is limited to 10 posts in the first 24 hours. This could also be changed to be a cap of 10 posts until the first 3 are checked by a moderator. I believe this would not be awfully difficult to implement, however would reduce spam by quite a significant amount.
So would this be possible? I'm rather unsure why very little has been done yet, so is there actually a limitation with the servers?

I would say more than 20 posts in an hour at any time is excessive. Surely this is not beyond the abilities of a simple script?

Yup, something has to be done about it. They may become more hilarious and educative then ever before, but I still won't buy their drugs or visit their websites.

Ahhh, yes... and another thing! Were these spammers that we just had the masters or the apprentices? We may have fought one off, but there will soon be the other...

These aren't pro spam people. Spam people ride in single file to hide their numbers.

The spam people don't like the fact that we are trying to stop them.

User "nzenzkory" is a bot...
Also, "WilsonMB" post spam via PM..
There should be some sort of "human test" in the first 10 posts... Or so.

Or else a place where we report the spammers by user name. After a while, they would give it up.

They're bots - they couldn't give a toss and won't give up.

Well, do the bots create accounts? Or the people? If the bots do, then all hope is lost...

Sometimes, but then it takes 5 mins to make an account, and then leave a bot 30mins to deluge the site with crap. VCP should at least add a Captcha type system to stop auto account creation, and then put a daily limit on the amount of posts without having to refill another Captcha. it probably won't stop them entirely, but it will certainly slow them down.

We implemented something yesterday that should help stop the bot invasion, we'll see how it goes, it should decrease the spam. I'm on to you skynet ...

Re: A suggestion for Spam
I almost stopped coming to these forums because of the spam issue. I'm so glad it's fixed.
