E3D + lights looks like a nightmare

Postby Baestro on 01/13/2018, 5:15 pm

Working on a project recently with 3d text, where the text is falling into place from a scattered position behind the screen. Used a group null for the text falling onto a plane with a texture. Everything looked good in the preview. Added light, enabled shadows, and AE freaked out. No preview, and 3d null object for group is not responding to Z position keyframes. WTF?

Please advise. Thanks.

null object Z value goes from -2500 to 0... this was actually working before I added the light layer. Damn thing is actually rendering in preview now. This is the second time adding a light has totally f***ed up an E3D layer in a project

You can see in the null object here, Z coordinate is -2500, this was working fine before I added the light

Ok. I just reinstalled the latest NVIDIA driver, then it worked with the null object correctly. Adjusted light, and it f***ed up again. Bullshit. Lights + null object = f*** you? Jesus.

I'd be curious to see what happens if u eliminate the null object and perform the controls from the group itself.

Don't know if this helps but try changing the stacking order so that the null isn't between Element and the light.

Changed stacking order, no real difference. Honestly, from looking into this as much as I could online, I think this might be caused by CUDA not working exactly right with the OSX update. NVIDIA's site has been really unclear to me as far as what to use, and it looks like a lot of other people are saying the same thing as regards OSX High Sierra compatibility. Seems like my NVIDIA manager would let me know when it's time to update, but nope - even the posted current driver is not their most recent release for my card - I had to look that up myself, then find it on their site.
