new character rigging script preview

Postby JoJoPuppe on 06/14/2010, 5:01 am

hey AE-community,

all of u know it is a pain to animate a character in After Effects without knowhow of expressions.
i run also into this issue and decided to get around this with the help of a easy to use script.

here is a preview of 2 months of work.

Oh my, this is really a masterblast! Is it free or commercial script? When it will be available?

That is awesome. Have you decided on a release date? If so when?
Great work.

Wow dude!
thats awesome! mo matter how awesome DuDuF IK Tools is, this is so much easier!
at least for humanoids though. for other types of charecters i'll have to use Duik.
Great job!

hey guys,

thx for the very positive feedback.
first i have to say this script is part of my diploma and this work will last until mid september.
so the deadline is also in mid september.
last week i got a little bit time to work an my own IK_expression. not that smart as dan`s one but now its better for me to understand whats going on.
also i made a few improvements to the foot-control-mechanism. now its more userfriendly for corrections after the build command. next implementation will be the pole-helper. that u can choose where the arm or leg will be bend.

i must say too, that duduf ik tools is great but it miss the roll-heel-toe-controls. like in real 3d-rigging. for me it was the indicator to start with my own the script. it was the hardest feature to implement. but now it works perfectly, wohooo!

stay tuned for the next preview :D

i was just wondering, would this work with 3D objects inside of AE? say you export from 3ds into photoshop and then export each part (arms legs torso etc) into After Effects, would this be able to rig a side view shot using the 3D components? could be a good way to use 3D shading for 2D animation.

I don`t think it would work totally the way you might think..
The normals shading (see Andrews tutorials section) may help out to a degree but if you envisage a fully interactive 3d model with full shading then you may be let down.

Also depends on what version of AE you use as to if it will accept a 3d model if your planning on that route.

Well, lets just assume everyone was using cs5 (i know they dont, but just to get over the 3d supported subject), you could have separate compositions with each 3D component in and a light source, which can be made into a 2D layer and used with Null objects just like anything else, but this would mean the lights would not effect the normals (would just retain the same shading no matter where you moved the leg/arm etc). so it would be doable, but to actually get the lights to effect the 3D objects as they move.... maybe not

Could be an interesting experiment

Free Beta (download) RigIt

Postby JoJoPuppe on 11/7/2010, 11:03 am

hey guys,

sry that it takes so long. (its the first script i ever wrote, so it takes time to learn^^)
but after a lot of work i release the first beta of "RigIt".

i build a little site where u can get it:
http://www.rigitscript.com and download the script. there is also a little quickguide to get started.

it is a lot of fun to play with. if u have something done please post the result so i see what is possible with the script. unfortunately i have not that much time to test the script.

have fun and feel free to post feedback :)

cya

edit: i got a few mails from users complaining that after the build command things went strange.
i can agree with that and search for an solution. my quastion is now: are there users who are able to build working rigs? at the moment i think its a CS4 problem....(for myself i tested in CS3 and CS5 and it works)

edit: update: new fix is out...pls try and give feedback :)

This is truly outstanding work! I'm in the process of writing an animated comedy and your rigging script will help me out massively!

Many many thanks for creating this wonderful bit of script. I personally would love to see a new tutorial as your animation examples on youtube are fantastic! ;)
