Smooth animations in AE

Hi guys,

I've been struggling to achieve smooth animation curves in AE. I've been applying the smooth keyframes expression to my properties but it seems like it's not improving much.
I have been using this expression below:
smooth(width = .2, samples = 5, t = time)
The animations still look and feel a bit stuttered.

If you know of any tips or tutorials that would be great!

Many thanks,

You shouldn't have to use an expression to get smooth animation. Can you upload an example for us to see?
Also, make sure it's not "judder" that you're experiencing. Learn more about judder here.

Hey Michael,

Thank you for sharing the article with me.
It's very helpful to know, but I am not sure if I can have the even number of pixels per frame consistently.
I have been playing around with the frame rate also and indeed, the higher the frame rate, the much smoother animation I get.
Although, what can you do if the frame rate requirement is lower, 23.976 or 25 for example?
Originally i thought that working with expressions will help, but I did not see much of a difference.
If you know of any tips or tutorials, would be great to know.
I uploaded 2 tests with different frame rates. The higher frame rate one is much much smoother.

Thanks again!

Try to use the Smoother window in AE on the selected key-frames. it will show you better how the animations is smoothed .
