Will Element 3D run on MacPro without a GPU

Postby dddnick on 07/18/2012, 10:10 am

I'd really like to purchase this product, but can't tell (from what I have found at least) whether Element will run on my MacPro tower without a dedicated GPU. Will the program physically run and just render very slowly or will it not render at all?

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 5870 and supports OpenGL, but can't tell if a separate dedicated card like a Quadro 4000 is needed

I can't really run out and get an additional GPU right now, so I'd like to know before I purchase.

Thanks.

Hi,

You don't need to have a dedicated GPU, you only need to met the following requirements:

COMPATIBILITY:
• After Effects CS3, CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6
Mac (10.6+) & Windows

GRAPHICS CARD REQUIREMENTS:
• Nvidia & ATI, minimun 512MBs of memory.
• Nvidia GeForce 8800, &9000 Series
• Nvidia GeForce 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 Series
• Nvidia Quadro FX Series 4000 and better.
• ATI 3870 and better on Windows
• ATI HD Series on Mac
Supported GPU list

So if you running at least Mac (10.6+) and you have an ATI Radeon HD 5870, Element 3D will run great.

More informations available on the Element 3D Product page

Cheers,

Marc.

Thanks Marc.

I finally found those specs om my own (can't believe I missed them before) and went ahead bought Element. I've been playing around with it a lot and it works great. I'm very impressed by how responsive it is compared to using AE CS6's new 3D engine.
