Installing Model Packs On A Different Hard Drive

Postby cdub on 07/18/2012, 5:22 am

Is there a way to install the Element media packs in another directory? I don't want them on my SSD (precious space!) where AE and other applications are installed, but would rather have them on my mechanical hard drive (with the rest of my media). They add up to quite a bit of space.

If anyone knows, I would be grateful. I also emailed support, and when then answer I will post here as well.

I'm on Win7 x64. I received a reply from support that it's not currently possible, but being looked into for a future version.

Here's one quick discovery.

Turns out that the model packs are installed to your "My Documents" folder, wherever that happens to live. In my case, since I have a new computer (less than a week old), I moved my "My Documents" off the SSD to the magnetic hard drive, and reinstalled Element and the model packs, and I was good to go.

For anyone else that has this question, as long as your "My Documents" folder does not reside on your SSD, neither will the Element models.

Hi,

On Windows 7, you can for example use the mklink command to create a symbolic link.

It's just a tech tips, but I would recommend to wait until VC Devs implement this feature in a futur build of Element 3D. Use this tips at your own risk !

Cheers,

Marc.
