Any news on E3D v3?

Everything Element 3D belongs here

As an update to my previous post, I sent an email asking about the status of E3D and received a prompt response. Yes, E3D is still in active development with goals slated for updates. No dates given, but that's for the best. Everyone is gun shy about that!

So, let's see what happens. Perhaps the quarantine and industry slow downs will result in some good. :D

Seems like VCP is kinda dead at the moment.......

It has been VERY quiet for quite some time. I've tried emailing support asking about the status of E3D and have only received a note saying no information available at this time. It has been probably a year since I last asked via email, maybe it's time once more to ask. Perhaps if they get enough inquiries, it'll be worthwhile to work on the project. Hopefully if people do email, they'll be courteous. Sure, we're all frustrated about the lack of development and communication, but spitting out vitriol is NOT the way to encourage positive results.

Edit: Email request sent to support@videocopilot.net regarding E3D status. I said I'd readily buy a v3 update right now.

Yeah I agree. It’s just lack of news or information. I would just like VCP to tell us if any upcoming products like a new version of E3D is coming or new versions of action essentials etc.

It’s not asking much for a quick message on their blog even if it’s just saying sorry guys nothing coming at the moment.

Maybe it's interesting to take a look at Hitfilm Pro 14. It supports Videocopilot plugins (E3D). But there are still bugs. FXhome is working on that. I see the advantage in Hitfilm's 3D space and it has the foundry camera tracker and mocha . So I moved from AE to Hitfilm.

But I'm looking forward to E3D v3, too.

Well Andrew did talk a little about the next version of E3D. Said it’s coming and they are very excited about it and been working on it for years.
I watched the NAB 2020 video.

Well. That is the best AE news I've heard in years! I seriously use Element in every project I do. It has become indispensable to my workflow. I've tried to replace it with Stardust. But Stardust lacks basic 3d render controls needed for excellent quality renders. And using other 3d software (Blender, Max, Unity) makes me really appreciate the elegant simplicity of Element.

I couldn't be happier about Andrew's theatrical success and am inspired by his journey. But I am hoping the VC company can keep this wonderful tool alive.

To that end, I would gladly pre-order this next upgrade. I would even gladly pre-pay more money to get in on a beta program which gives me some say on which new features get prioritized. There are some new features I've wanted for years.

Glad to hear this isn't dead.

Yeah I was excited about him mentioning E3D. After using element, it gave me the urge to learn more about 3D software so for the last 4 years I have been using blender and it’s awesome.
Yes it’s another step up and learning curve but so glad i took the plunge. It’s actually made me better with E3D weirdly.

So my workflow now is after effects, (of course with awesome plug ins like E3D, and others by VCP and red giant), photoshop and blender.
Very excited to see what the future holds for element 3D though.

Now, we never know when E3D v.3 will come out :D And it can take years. It's all ready a couple of years since Andrew teased about it... But, mostly, I sincerely hope RTX global illumination and real-time reflection will be part of its features when it comes out. It really would be the turning point for when you can have good enough renders in E3D for it to replace a lot of the not-too complex 3d work that usually needs to be pre-rendered. Currently people have started using Unreal engine for a lot of film production because the real-time quality is good enough to replace pre-render, and it could be a game changer for E3D as well.

I cross my fingers.

What about GI? Global illumination is an amazing feature but I don't think real GI will be inside of element 3d V3 or V2.5. GI computing need to the time but element 3d is a fast rendering 3d plugin. May be a fake GI will be nice inside of element 3d . But about reflection. Yes! real physical reflection its very important for upcoming version beside of displacement map.

Realtime GI is absolutely possible with the new RTX cards. Even some games have it all ready and Unreal Engine support it with a switch of a button. Even new minecraft has realtime GI, just search for Minecraft RTX on youtube. If the RTX cards can handle GI in realtime 60fps on a game it should be easily possible in E3D as well - which doesn't even need to be as fast as games, since you render out the frames.

Thanks. Good news I must search about that if a gaming rendering engine can handle physical GI realtime! Of course realtime GI beside of realtime Raytracing.
