Unable to pinpoint an object's placement between E3D & AE

Postby martycg on 10/26/2018, 2:51 pm

Hi

Is there an easy way to pinpoint an object's exact placement from E3D and inside AE? Trying to put an optical flare at a specific spot, but it's not lining up and E3D makes it hard to use LEFT/TOP view to be precise.

Is there a good way to do it.

Add a null for the element object within the interface

There is a Find 3D Position utility in the Element 3D rollout in the effects panel. I think that's what it's called, I'm not in front of my editing machine so I can't remember exactly. You click that, then click in the scene where you want your flare to be, then there should be an option to create a null at that location. You can then have your lens flare track that null. I think. If you can't have the lens flare track a null, you could put a light in the scene, parent it to the null, then have the lens flare track the light. Hope this helps. I know it's not technically exact, but it's the best I can do without my computer from just the ole' brain.
I really miss being able to have an Avatar : (
