Unrecoverable Error Issue

Postby TomMakesGifs on 03/20/2018, 12:33 pm

Hey!

I've been conversing with a very helpful Matt via the support e-mail over the last day or so but to no avail, so thought I'd try here. Apologies in advance for the long read, but thought thoroughness would help my cause.

Over the weekend, my SSD failed- I replaced it and reinstalled all my backed up works, programs etc. Prior to it failing, I had been experimenting with E3D and had no issues whatsoever- all fine and dandy.

Since the reinstall however, I keep receiving the "Element has encountered an unrecoverable error. Please compress the following file and contact support (support@videocopilot.net" message any time I open up an existing project with E3D applied to a layer within it or when applying it to a layer in a new project. In addition to this, I also receive a 'AEGP Plugin Element: Leaked effect refs (5027 :: 12)' message whenever I exit After Effects.

I've scoured the web (and these forums) for a solution but have yet to find one that works for me. All of my hardware remains the same other than a new SSD. I've reinstalled Windows (twice, one time not allowing any updates before installing the newest drivers), tried different versions of AE, tried 5 different driver versions (also uninstalling with DDU in safe mode), flashed my BIOS, installed new chipset drivers, tried two different versions of E3D 2.2, fiddled around endlessly with the Nvidia Control Panel; I even downloaded a tonne of bloatware from my notebook's support page.

I am absolutely stumped, and am even considering buying a secondhand laptop as I have an upcoming project where E3D would be massively beneficial- though would obviously love to get it fixed.

My specs:
(MSI GE72-7RD)
Intel i7-7700HQ
32GB RAM
240GB SSD (small, but will do for now)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 (mobile)

Any suggestions at all would be massively, massively appreciated! I'm 90% sure it's something to do with my gpu or its drivers but just can't figure out what.
Thanks!

Same problem here

Windows 10 Laptop
Nvidia 1060, v397.93 drivers

Element used to work, but no longer does, and just kicks out the Unrecoverable Error every time.

I believe the issue might be with the 10 series. We've had the same problem at work on a windows machine with a 1060.
re-formatted the pc, tried several drivers.. etc.. nothing worked :x
Finally we removed the card and replaced it with an old 670, it worked!! :|
It's really frustrating, we lost precious time on a tight deadline. Good thing we had it working.
Hope this help, best of luck.

Excuse me for my grammar since English is not my native language. The problem only seem to be exist on Laptops with nvidia optimus technology and spring creator update installed. I have found temporary workaround for this problem.
Before launching AE go to device manager and disable intel HD graphics in Graphic adapter. Your screen will go blank for a second. After that launch AE and setup element 3d like you usually do. You will be able to proceed without element 3d crashing. The only downside will be the screen tearing. You can re-enable intel HD graphic once element 3D load properly in After effects.

Just bought new notebook. I AM so happy!
DELL G7 I WILL ROCK!
GPU Intel UHD 630
GPU Geforce 1060 max-q
CPU i7-8750H

until I've installed after effects and e3d. Boom >-||

So none of smart guys have a proper solution ? only work around, with gpu disable enable ? (besides it is working )
But i believe it is not the way i want to work, so please let us know if someone will have permament solution for this interesting
awesome issue....

If you're using a laptop, or a motherboard, that has/supports Intel intergrated graphics and a discrete GPU then try going back to an older version of the Intel drivers (like the "latest" ones on your laptop/motherboard manufacturers website. Intel installers will warn you about replacing newer drivers with older ones but fortunately won't actually stop you from doing it). Yes, I know, rolling back the Intel drivers seems counterintuitive given Element 3D's dependence on non-Intel chips but, if I'm right, you can thank me later!

I think there is a problem with driver updates for the GTX 10 Series.

I have 3 units and been using Element 3D for years now and each have one installed on it.
My desktop used to run it smoothly but when the driver update came for GTX 1050 Ti, it started to pop this error.
I just got a brand new laptop with GTX 1060 with the latest update and it's just the same thing.
I also have another laptop which runs with GTX 850m with the latest update and Element 3D runs just fine.

Therefore, it's like it's safe to say that Element 3D is having a problem with the GTX 10 series with its latest driver update. I hope Videocopilot team will take action regarding this problem.

I also have the same problem but managed to fix it by updating the intel graphics driver.
If your intel driver is already on the latest version, try reinstalling it.

I think it's because the computer has two graphics cards. Element 3D cannot decide which one to choose (or After Effects). I have the same problem. And I disable Intel's graphic card, Element 3D is working. But today I have the same problem, even though I have disabled the Intel graphics card. >-||

For whatever it is worth I just experienced this issue. In my case it occurred when I double clicked on an AE/E3d file on my network drive. I found opening files that way on a network drive can sometimes cause issues with AE. So I immediately updated to latest E3d patch, opened the file directly through AE, and everything seems fine now.

Cannot be simply a 10-series issue. I have an MSI laptop with GTX 1070, Element works just fine. Windows 10 Home OS.
