"Element has encountered an unrecoverable error" - Help?!

Postby jayrod on 02/17/2016, 3:55 am

Hello,

I am new on this forum but I've been using Video Copilot products for a while now. I am having an incredibly frustrating time getting an After Effects project that uses Element 3D to render without giving me an error message.

The message is: Element has encountered an unrecoverable error. Please compress the following file and contact support (support@videocopilot.net):

D:\Documents\VideoCopilot\Error
Logs\Element_v2.2.2140.develop-20160217-022910-5712-3804.dmp

It happens about 40-50% of the way through rendering my project always at the same place. I've looked up what other people have done to fix this error and none of the recommendations seem to apply to me.

I'm using After Effects CC 2015 and Element 3D v2.2.2. The plug-in is detected perfectly fine in After Effects and I can modify my project easily.

Most people seem to think it is a graphics card related issue, but I've got a GeForce GTX 980 and I just upgraded the drivers to the latest version and it didn't help the problem one bit. My specs are way over the recommendations so there shouldn't be any problems there.

I just can't figure out what the problem could be. I am trying to render a logo for my startup company and it needs to be done fairly soon. However since I am using Element 3D in the design of this logo, this stupid error message is preventing me from getting this done.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello,

Are you rendering with Adobe Media Encoder or do you have "Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously" ON ?
Switch OFF "Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously" in the Preferences (AE CS 5.5, AE CS6).
You can also contact videocopilots Support: support@videocopilot.net

Hey hans thank you very much for your help, unfortunately switching off "render multiple frames" didn't work... I have tried a clean install but I have the same problem, any project with Element will crash immediately...
I think I'll try the previous version and write to support.

Thank you ;)

Hello andrus,

try downgrade to Version 2.2.0, maybe it will work for your configuration(i think the Support suggest this in a older thread).

My config is i7 2600K @ 3.4 GHz, 8Gb Ram, 2Gb nVidia GTX680
I face the same problem with AE CS6 + element 3d v2.2.14.
(Multi-frame rendernig turned off)

Seems like it creates a memory overflow conflict that cannot be hadled right ( glorious C++ memory management troubles?) - so it puts down AE as well...
You can see it by yourself just rotating a simple extruded text for couple minutes and watch your Task Manager how AE kills the memory.
When in Ray-Traced 3D composition mode it takes significally more time to call a crash.
But in the end it comes anyways.

I have to admin that despite the AE CS6 itself drains the memory very quickly, it doesn`t seem to die so instantly with easy shapes.
It knocks it`s head against the upper limit of the memory but still keeps working.

So. No workaround yet except Ctrl+Alt+/ (NumPad) to "Purge All" from the RAM. Once in a couple minutes.
But that also isn`t a reliable thing - once you forget to do that in the heat of creating smth you get a kick in your head,
So call yourself lucky if you will have a chance to save.
I`ve even got totally black screens couple of times - when PC still works but you can`t do anything just >-||

Well, setting resolution to Quarter also helps to survive longer with that...
Frustrating. Very frustrating.

So I`ve got two questions:
1) Any software update solution coming soon?
2) How much memory should be installed to keep that hungry software alive?

Thank you :)

Well I think I`ve found a workaround for AE CS6 + Element 3d v2 to make it work stable :)

AE CS6 doesn`t overflow the memory now even when lmited to 5 Gb Ram usage and Disk Cache turned off

1) Enter the Edit/Preferences and Shift+LeftClick any line of that list to enter the Preferences dialog box
2) When the Preferences box have opened you`ll see a Secret menu at the bottom of the box
(see the attachment)
3) Enter it and check Disable Layer Cache.
4) Put a little number in Purge Every ... Frames During Making Movie to prevent errors during the rendering process

Hope that helps you too :)
