Smoke

Anyone know how to make 3D smoke?

I finished my very first book trailer using element 3D and after effects -

Does anyone have any ideas as to a good solution for smoke as the train moves the smoke puffs out and is left behind as the train progresses? I know you can do smoke with after effects but ultimately it’s a 2d effect. Maybe this is the limitation of the software?

Isn’t that ultimately a 2D effect? If you have the camera moving past and around models generated by element 3D how would you position the smoke to appear behind and in front of objects and once the smoke leaves where it’s generated doesn’t follow the model?

In that video I made the smoke is turned way down (ultimately failed at it). I wanted it to look like big billowing steam puffs as the train moved but it’s generated on top of all objects and follows the train. I used particle world

comp the smoke and add it as a 2d element tracked onto the 3d train in the video
