Anamorphic bokeh with Trapcode Particular

Postby BDboY on 10/10/2019, 7:31 am

Hi guys !!

I'm working on a commercial right now in which I'm using A LOT Trapcode Particular.
This commercial is shot with anamorphic lenses, and I was sure Particular was able to generate DOF with an editable bokeh aspect ratio... I was wrong...

Right now, the only way I'm thinking is to simulate a depth map by using the visibility option with my particules colored in white, and then use this map either with Frischluft DOF or the lens blur from AE. However, I'm not sure this trick will work and I think it would be very time consuming.

So I was wondering if anyone here knew another way of simulating oval anamorphic bokeh with Particular pleaaase !
Thank you all ;)

Excuse my English, I know it's bad, but I try very hard to get better ! ^^

Thanks for you answer, however I don't see an option to modify the aspect ratio of the bokeh... :s
And I would still need to generate that depth map ! :(

Hi,

The Lenscare plugin set has an iris x-y aspect ratio setting, allowing you to perfectly simulate anamorphic bokeh.

I used it a lot in this production:

Thanks for you answer !
In the end, I didn't find a solution that fitted my needs, but after some tests, I found that the difference wasn't that obvious...

By the way, if you want to see what the project was, here it is ;)

And great work BTW !!
One question : are you French ? I see a lot of french names in your credits... Because if you ar, ce sera plus simple pour moi de parler la langue de Macron ! ^^

There are lots of great Stardust tutorials on Superluminal's website:
https://www.superluminal.tv/tutorials
Or Vimeo Channel:
https://vimeo.com/superluminaltv

Unfortunately, you need a third party plugin to get access to advanced bokeh settings. AE's native Depth of Field is very basic, and Particular's DOF has even less options.

But FYI, Stardust can easily export a customizable particle Zdepth pass.

I hope this helps.
