drawing a perspective 3D line

Postby gemmapons on 09/26/2019, 5:29 am

Hello,

Here is the link of what I need to do:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJSnvbI2DxM

A line that travels across screens getting far away of the camera and then it moves closer to the camera using a 3D space while it draws.
I have been asked several times to do this kind of job and I struggle everytime. I always found a way to trick it but very difficult and I never thought it was the right way to do it.
Would you say that's been made with after effects? If that, how would you do it?

Thanks,
Gemma

Ideally a dedicated 3d program but you can try trapcode 3d stroke or maybe something at aescripts.com

You can use text animators in AE to do something like this or, as mentioned, 3d Stroke from Red Giant's Trapcode Suite. Alternatively, remember that AE comes with a Lite version of Cinema 4D and you can do something like this with a sweep object.

As said before, 3D stroke seams to be the first choice, but if you're more comfortable with particular, you can do it to, in any case, using a 3D null or a light to animate the path is a must !

You can also look at the new Motion Trail in DUIK. I haven't played with it yet, but I think it could be also a solution that works with 3D paths, the only difference being that I don't think you can manually adjust the width across time, not without using the automatic taper option ;)
French motion designer / VFX artist / director / etc...
Excuse my English, I know it's bad, but I try very hard to get better ! ^^
