Help with plugin form

Postby Xienix on 05/26/2017, 8:41 am

I am trying to pull off a brain amination within after effects, I chose the plugin Form to do the job.

I´m trying to get an electric impulse going `through` the 3D model, I figured I´d be able to do that if I am able to isolate a single stroke of the 3D model in the Y axis

So, here´s the 3D model viewed for the side. http://imgur.com/RPt7d7c
This is the starting point of the animation. http://imgur.com/IhwemD9
and this is the end position of the animation. http://imgur.com/OA5J88J

The animation will mind of end up looking like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah7-Q3R ... e=youtu.be (made this with a mask which unfortunately doesn't really work in a 3D space)

I can´t animate the opacity map in form in order to pull off this effect.
Is someone able to help me about a bit? :)

Well first, that YouTube link is extremely short.

So, do you have a reference image or animation you're attempting emulate?

You can use a 3d stroke. I think from red giant
You could use VC saber as a 3d layer
Possibly plexus
Possibly lightening zap

sure thing:

from 0:05 til 0:10 but with particles instead of 3D models.

The problem with adding an additional plugins for the lighting effects to this is that you'll have to retrace it by hand so I'd like to do everything with 1 plugin/effect. multiple layers are fine though

Depth matte would be my first idea and use a replicated model made up of white to show on top. Add a glow and you got something.

E3d offers a camera cut off that could also be used

A bit late but I managed to do it and it looks pretty neat.

So here's what I did, I used the trapcode plugin From for the particles. Then I Created a new layer with E3d, made sure that both the particle model and the E3d model lined up and went to render-> output -> set show to matte, after that I rotated the X- rotation matte so that the matte lined up correctly. Now it's just a matter of keyframing the position Z matte, put mode to screen and add a nice glow effect.

Not the best description but it might help other people in the future.

Thank you very much for the Depth matte suggestion.
