How to achieve this effect
Hi, found a interesting music video while browsing on youtube it reminded me somewhat of rhubarb and custard or the red bull adverts but more grungy, Id like to give this aesthetic a go with my own personal touch - from my understanding they have used roto to achieve the main body of 'animation' but I am mostly stuck on how to achieve the wobbly drawn line effect.
Any tips or suggestions on what would be the most economical way to approach the task would be much appreciated, I've posted a link below of the video -

There's no roto here, the whole thing has been drawn frame by frame -- on top of footage in some cases, although the original footage is not shown anywhere in the resulting animation.
Frame animation in often done 12 frames per second (or 24 frames per second duplicating 2 frames each) so that you need to draw 50% less frames, and some parts where there is no real motion 3 frames are circulated a number of times to keep the apparency of motion.
Other than that, it is just a whole lot of work.

Hehe, the part in red is the definition of rotoscoping.

Well, that's embarrasing.
Forgot the original definition.

I guess roto is interpreted differently in cases
I can tackle that part easily I'm a senior level roto artist, I'm mostly struggling with how I would go about creating the drawn line effect. Would I perhaps be better off using Photoshop or is there something afx can offer that is more practical?

I'm pretty sure that piece wasn't done in AE. Doing stuff like that in AE is very taxing, you have no onion skins, you don't have great brush tools, etc.
I'd look at photoshop or Animate CC or something similar.

You have all of those things right inside AE if you get Paint & Stick from AE Scripts and Plugins.
