School of Motion Expands Online Motion Design Curriculum with New VFX for Motion Course

New School of Motion Course, VFX for Motion, to empower motion designers to create world-class compositions combining live-action footage and motion graphics

SARASOTA, FL--School of Motion, Inc. (“School of Motion” or “SOM”) and iconic VFX artist Mark Christiansen have teamed up to release VFX for Motion, the leading online motion design school’s first course focused on the art and science of visual effects.

The 12th course in the SOM catalog, VFX for Motion will be made available to students worldwide during the school’s Winter 2019-2020 Session; SOM’s 11th course, Illustration for Motion, premiered during the Fall 2019 Session, and sold out in record time.

The release of VFX for Motion, and the school’s accelerated curriculum expansion schedule, are representative of School of Motion’s skyrocketing growth in the last few years — and in 2019, in particular. Founded in 2013 with a single course, SOM now has 5,000 alumni and counting across more than 100 countries and every continent (except Antarctica); 1,200-plus students enrolled in the Fall 2019 session alone, selling out three courses for the first time in the school’s history.

“This is an exciting time for School of Motion. Our brand manifesto video with Ordinary Folk went viral, our entirely new website is on the way, more and more students are enrolling every session, and the buzz around our latest course has been incredible,” says Mr. Korenman.

“With VFX for Motion, we’re thrilled to launch the ultimate experience for artists looking to seamlessly transition between the worlds of motion design and VFX — and we know Mark, our newest instructor, will be an incredible addition to our already unmatched team of course creators.”

Designed for motion graphics artists with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe After Effects, VFX for Motion will provide students with a fundamental understanding of all the essential visual effects techniques, including keying, rotoscoping, tracking, matchmoving, and more, allowing them to add a new dimension to their motion design work. The instructor, Mark Christiansen, has created visual effects and animations for world-famous feature films, television programs, computer games and technology companies. He’s also the author of the After Effects Studio Techniques series of books that helped launch a generation of visual effects artists.

"It was a huge honor to be asked to create this course with School of Motion. Not only are they creating some of the best training anywhere, they seem to look for the best instructor available on the globe for a given topic,” says Mr. Christiansen.

“The huge bonus for me over the books and videos I've made in the past was the collaboration that was possible. We had a lot of fun tailor-making this course for After Effects artists who want the kind of advanced visual effects chops you can only get with dedicated training and practice."

The Winter Session at School of Motion begins January 6, 2020, with enrollment opening December 9, 2019. Individuals interested in taking a course this session are advised to register in advance on SchoolOfMotion.com to receive course-specific alerts and sign up before their preferred course sells out.
