3D Animation section fix before its still not too late?

Postby Grubson on 08/6/2008, 2:31 am

Hi Andrew, first of all i'm not a sort of revolutionary guy :D , but i have notice that since you launched new web site a few days ago, you already get a lot of users>topics>help from other people, but the problem is, that it is getting too mesy in this section of VCP forum. Right now maybe it will not be a problem, but in future... There are mixed topics about Blender, Cinema4D, 3ds max, and as long as amout of topics will rise it will be harder to find anything here about favourite 3d software. I think it would be great to set up a separated sections for main 3d softwares, or to set up some FAQ with topic template like "Pls in new posts name as (-=software you use=-), then rest of topic name" Those are only my first ideas, probably there could be another solution of this but its up to you.

Cheers

P.S sorry if i made mistakes- my english is not still good enought

I guess this should've been posted in Website Support :P you know, to avoid chaos.

Anyway, tagging topics is a good idea.

I don't think the problem is so bad right now.. as long as the thread titles are proper... best way to keep track of your discussions are the icons next to the threads.. just look for the red star..

Maybe I'm not having a problem because I check the site often..

Thats the point... Right now its not a problem, but in nearly future it will cause a lot of problems. And people even now are not writing topic names with name of their 3d software so... and you are right too, because for guy who will visit it every week/day/hour/minutes/sec... nope maybe not every second, but it will be no problem to find sth for us. On other hand it will be a lot of problem to find here anything for the new guys or just normal people with life who dont spend so much time at computer :P

P.s topic been reported to website support. Thanks europa, my fault.

We are watching the forum, try not to double post and have a little faith, the forum is days old.

I think a good solution would be: if you want to shatter 3D text
name your topic: shattering 3D text
so everyone who knows how it works in ANY packet posts a solution.
So if you use 3ds max just go to the Shattering 3D text thread and take a look if someone already posted a solution for your software.

Re: Sub forums?

Hello everyone,

I think it would be great if you could split up the "3D Animation" forum. It would get things more organized - well at least I think so ;)

* Maya
* 3dsmax
* XSI
* Cinema4D
* Blender
* Non Application Specific 3D Workflows

etc.

Cheers

i dont think its a good idea to just name the title and not have it in a 3d app sub forum name that you want the effect in.

if a topic becomes big then people will have to search every page eg... search a 10 page topic to see if anyone mentioned how to do the effect in the app they are using.

you need sub forums like "Axelnator" suggested above

you are probably right, but I don't see a problem with the 3D section right now.
I think it's still pretty organized and clear, so is the whole forum.(and we are working very hard to keep it that way)
But that's just my opinion.

I think dataflow got it to the point

If youre looking for "shatter" in general you should post a topic without the application name. But shatter can get heavily application dependend i.e

3dsmax - Thinking Particles 3, Pflow, Pre Cutted Polys, Dynamic Shattering ...
Maya - Scripted Particles in MEL, Blastcode ...
XSI - ICE, Cutted Polys...

So if someone needs help on shattering in Maya he would look in the Maya section, if he is interested in a more general way he would look in the "non application specific" forum.

Of course you can have a look at diferent apps to see how they handle the job :lol:

I'm not suggesting to extend the subforum even more (like Dynamics, Texture,Render etc.) just a top level point for each app

Cheers
