Flying and Landing Test =)

Postby Wydee on 08/8/2008, 10:51 am

Hey guys!

I tried to do some superhero stuff =) This is a test of me flying off and then landing. I'm not that good with after effects, but I think it came out "ok".
What do you guys think?

Sweet, i thought the landing was a bit better than the take off. I think if you added a bit of camera shake and some motion blur right when you take off and land, it'd add a lot. To make the take off a bit better, just like in animation, you should have a little bit of anticipation before you fly upwards. By that I mean you should duck down a little first. Here:

If you did that first, I think it'd be more successful. It's pretty sweet though, so good job :)

That was sweet. I too thought the take off was just ok but the landing was awesome - it looked great.

Great job

yeah nice.
I also think some anticipation before takeoff, like preparing to jump or something.

Also this is my personal opinion, but I think some air distortion would look really cool when he takes off, like a heat wave. :)

you could use one of the action movie essentials explosions as a displacement map. (effects-distort-displacement map) that always gets a cool heatwave effect. ;)

Agreed! Landing was good! Take-off was sudden and looks strange. I always think of those "acts of coolness" like Neo does in the Matrix. Gather power, and jump! Not fly off like its nothing.

Here's a clips I did a few months ago but I figured it'd help. I wasn't too hard. A couple "plates" and a little roto-scoping and your good to go!

When I do flying in after effects, I tend to use Particular to add a smoke trail coming off he person flying as they take off. I'd post a youtube link, but i haven't uploaded it yet.
The will to live decreases in direct proportion to time spent rotosoping.

Thanks. I had fun doing it. I hate having a kick butt camera and not doing anything with it, so I decided to put it to work. It was really easy. I've been doing AE work full time for 3 years, that helps a lot.

Thanks for all the kind comments!

Check out my other teaser I shot!

enjoy!
