Need Feedback on Alien Ship in Distance

Postby FrankyKnuckles on 09/29/2016, 9:55 am

I have a shot I'm working on where the actor is looking up between buildings at a huge space ship that is in the distance. I've been working in a box the past week on different things and need some outside opinions on this forced perspective shot -- I'm trying to show that the ship is very large yet in far out in the sky over the city.

Does this accomplish that feel? If not, what tips/tricks for adjusting it?

What you have now is pretty good, but if I had to recommend something I'd say more haze, fog that's tinting the back slightly more than the front (essentially just haze, plus you could try putting some helicopters and clouds in front of it for scale. I'd also say that the level of detail could be higher. A big ship should feel sprawling and complex. Try adding a layer of greeble to the geometry to accomplish this.

Thanks Faust good advice...I actually had clouds and a bluer sky, just forgot to turn that layer on. Adding a helicopter going by is a good idea for showing some additional scale. As far as the fog, right now I'm using the fog within the element 3d plugin...how would I get the effect you're mentioning as far as having a bit more fog in the back than the front of the ship?

This is a definite feature request for E3D - automated greebling!
