New computer. Thoughts?

Postby Faust on 01/23/2018, 9:23 pm

In need of a new system this year. It will be used primarily for 4k VFX with After Effects and Blender, but I also see some Nuke in my future. Any thoughts on these specs would be appreciated:

Intel - Core i9-7980XE 2.6GHz 18-Core I know more cores for AE is better, but is this overkill? Am I better off with the i9 7900X, which has only 10 cores but a faster clock?
Deepcool - CAPTAIN 240EX RGB 153.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Not sure if two fans will be enough, as I plan on overclocking to at least 4.6ghz. It may not fit in the case, so I'll have to check the dimensions. I'm really attached to the case though :)
Asus - ROG STRIX X299-XE GAMING ATX LGA2066 Motherboard
G.Skill - Ripjaws 4 Series 128GB (8 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Samsung - 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 SSD
Samsung - 960 EVO 1TB M.2-2280 SSD
2 X NVIDIA - Titan Xp 12GB Normally I'd go with 2x 1080ti, but because of the latest crypto-craze there are none available.
Phanteks - ECLIPSE P400S TEMPERED GLASS ATX Mid Tower Mid tower should be big enough, right?
Corsair - HX Platinum 1000W 80+ Platinum

I still believe you're actually better with less cores for AE with a higher clock speed, It still isn't optimized. Check the following article...

And why two graphic cards? Are you doing gpu rendering with a dedicated 3d render engine?

Interesting article. I did not know they removed the multicore rendering feature. That's definitely something to think about.

As for the GPUs: yes, they are for Blender Cycles.
