Meteor Tutorial!!!

I just finished an involved video tutorial on creating a meteor impact in After Effects right here: http://starlightproductions.ws/Starligh ... 9B335.html

If that doesn't work, try here: http://www.vimeo.com/1652144

Pretty nice job.

I have a couple tips if you like.
Keyframe your wiggle with a Slider Control. Works a lot better than starting at a hard coded time.
And when you get black around the sides, use Motion Tile and turn on Mirror Edges. Then you wont have to scale. But a word of warning about Motion Tile, if you have to much black it will look kinda funky when it tries to mirror it (you'll be able to tell) so don't go over board with the camera shake!
Speaking of cameras, if you used a camera instead of a null you wouldn't have to parent all the other layers to the null.

Sorry if I'm picking on you. Just giving some friendly advice you may or may not know. What are forums for right?

Happy AEing!
The reset button was my idea.

Oh wow, please reconsider your style of tutorial. Watching the screen zip around gives me a headache. If you can't use Andrew's way of a static screen with the mouse moving around, then you need to use Aharon's method of very minimal pans and zooms.

The only reason i did it that way was to get better quality, because when i do a static it is really grainy, and u can't even see the mouse.

That's where zooming in and out to focus attention helps. Go wide for some shots, zoom in the mouse selections for the detail stuff.

one thing you might want to do, is create a more smoky trail around the meteor :D

really nicly done exept you need the shake effect to not wiggle around 1 small area let it free up more and have it shake big but not too jerky in a small area.

btw do you have the preset?

Great tutorial, thanks.
Might I suggest however that when you use that particular meteor footage that you tilt it so that it looks like it's coming from above instead of straight on into the building. Meteors tend to come down from the sky ;)

I actually used something from Detonation Films(can't afford particular yet), but yeah that would be something to fix.

lol you misunderstood I didn't mean "particular" as in the plug in I meant the literary meaning of the word. As in, that specific footage. It's fine though. I've used a lot of DetonationFilms' stuff it's actually good for the most part. I just hate how most of their free stuff is low res though and when you key it out it looks terrible.

Anyway thanks for the tutorial it gave me a lot of nice ideas for future projects.
