Using Heat Distortion on a single layer in a comp?

Postby Steep Hill Films on 05/20/2016, 3:02 pm

Hi all! So I'm trying to do a comp in which I have a Saber mask layer for the bottom layer creating a flame in the shape of a logo. The layer above that is an E3D layer of the actual logo. My issue is that I'm trying to use the Heat Distortion plugin on the E3D layer to make JUST the 3D logo have the heat distortion, but every time I apply it the rest of the screen goes black and I can no longer see the flames from the Saber logo layer. It's important to note I also tried rendering out the E3D layer as an animation RGB+Alpha and had the same results, so it's not that. Any help here would be greatly appreciated! I've attached 2 screenshots so you can see what I'm talking about.

Thanks!

Precomp the layer, then add heat distortion on it inside that precomp. :)
