i9-7940x overclock

Postby eraizgn on 10/20/2018, 8:52 am

Hello everyone,

getting point immediately, just wanna ask something about. Ive bought a new video edit pc for After Effects ( Ive noticed that i7 8700K better for it, didnt know when I bought ) so i9-7940x is bad performance for it, I am little bit unhappy, so if I overclock i9-7940x, I would get better performance? Any experience? Bcoz higher gHz?

If you are planning on actively working heavily with this Computer I recommend a maximum single Core-Clock CPU such as the i7 8700K. This Processor clocks at 3,7 GHz base and has 4,7 GHz single-core turbo-clock.
The reason why you want a high clocked CPU is, that the interface and frame updates in After Effects are mainly calculated on a single Core. It is only when rendering or previewing multiple frames at once, that more cores of the Processor get employed by After Effects.

I'm running my 7940x at 4.4-4.6 GHz, kinda depending on what I do, though such an overclock needs pretty substantial cooling - as in my case, one 420x45mm + one 280x45mm radiator... And not something I'd recommend for others, but doing a 4-4.1 GHz overclock shouldn't be any problem with a proper cooler, like a 360mm AIO cooler.
