Using smoke to generate motion graphics/design

Postby JoeClark on 07/6/2017, 2:26 am

I'm pretty new to smoke and am trying to figure out how much of my graphics/motion workflow I can move over to smoke from AE. I know that I will be using smoke for compositing, finishing, and editing, but am stuck trying to figure out how to generate vector-based geometric motion design video and graphics within smoke.
I am experimenting right now with a combination of desktop paint, the paint node, gmask, and colored frames, but can't seem to find anything that has anywhere near the control/ease-of-use of AE. It feels a bit more like I am hacking together a workflow that Smoke is not designed for. Am I barking up the wrong tree here, or is there something I'm missing?

Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Many people use smoke/flame/etc., Fusion, or Nuke for compositing, but almost everybody uses After Effects for motion graphics. There's a reason; nobody else does it as good as After Effects (yet).
